We have given up 164 total points. The problem is 103 of those points where made easy by our Dallas Cowboys because of either turnovers or penalties.
Not to mention 7 more points given up on a Kick Return, and 4 points in safties.

Folks this is our biggest problem, no question. Just look at this crap.

Jacksonville game -
3 points given up after 15 yard personal foul
7 points given up after Bledose INT and Jags only have to go 32 yards
7 points given up after Bledose INT and Jags only have to go 40 yards

Washington Game -
3 points given up after 2 personal foul penalties for 30 yards.

Tennessee Game -
8 points given up after 36 yard pass interference penalty
3 points given up after 5 yard penalty gives 1st down on 3rd down.

Philly Game -
7 points given up after Mcbriar fumble and Philly only has to go 12 yards.
3 points given up after Bledsoe fumble
7 points given up after 15 yard Face Mask
7 points given up INT return

Houston Game-
3 points given up after 2 Face Mask penalties

Giants Game -
7 points given up after Romo INT and Giants only have to go 14 yards
7 points given up after INT returned for TD

Carolina Game -
7 points given up after 20 yard pass interference
7 points given up after Romo INT and Panthers only have to go 24 yards

Washington Game-
7 points given up after 15 yard Roughness penalty
7 points given up after 48 yard pass interference
3 points given up after blocked FG and 15 yard Face Mask.

In total we are giving up 20 points per game.

13 points a game are given up because of turnovers and penalties.
7 points per game are being given up because the other team earned it.

But you are what you are. Hope? Yes I'll agree with that but at some point you aren't just a team that's making mistakes that lose football games ... instead you become a sloppy undisciplined football team and that sort of play is expected from those types of teams.

Thanks, Champsheart. I knew that several opposing scores had come as a result of our own mistakes, but I didn't know the breakdown. Seeing it written really puts it in perspective. The question is can you solve these types of problems in the middle of a season? It would be interesting to know if a team that led the league in penalties for the first half of a season ever turned it around to be one of the least penalized teams in the second half of that same season.

I remember it.

And on the surface this team is way to talented to be 4-4. But talent is only one factor when dissecting successful teams and quite honestly in the era of the salary cap usually not the most important one.

Not one of the seasons in which the Patriots won their 3 SB's did I think they were the most talented team in the NFL. The adjectives I would use to describe them would be smart, driven, clutch, hardnosed, gritty, deep, and well coached amoung others. They had a young QB that was destined to be an alltime great which of course was huge and they did have alot of talent as well. But it was all the aforementioned qualities of that football team that inabled them to persevere on a championship level against sometimes more talented competition.

This Cowboys team exhibits very few of those intangibles at the moment and until that is corrected we aren't going anywhere.

Dear God, the first truly sensible thread since Sunday. If those penalties were cut in half, we'd be damn close to perfect. It's just uncanny to have a D and O ranked as high as we do (and only going to get better) and only be sitting at 4-4.
