This Merriman guy is pretty good

I think Ware could do it, he just needs to be really pissed off to do it. Someone needs to call his mom names or something, get him jacked up and let some emotions play into it.

Well its a good thing we drafted the best Linebacker. And that is Ware

After watching that game I came away with these observations.

I am impressed with the energy and high motor that Merriman plays with. He's VERY good at getting to the QB! Although, there is quite a difference in their defense to ours. Their D seems to normally bring at least 5 guys rushing the passer. Their interior DLinemen get a much better push up the middle than ours do and that doesn't allow the QB to step up in the pocket to make his throws. Consequently, its easier for Merriman to do a speed rush around the tackle deep into the backfield and the QB is usually there as a sitting duck. I'm not trying to take anything away from him.. he's a VERY good pass rusher, but he teammates do tend to help him a little more than Ware's do (not to mention their D Coordinator plays a lot more aggressive than ours).

Against the run, I'm not very impressed at all. He routinely gives ground and doesn't hold the line of scrimmage. Rather than stuffing the blocker and pushing the blocker off of him, he just gives ground and finesses his way into tackling the RB. Often times he'd give ground to the point where the RB would gain 4-5 yards before Merriman ever layed a hand on him.

They don't put him in coverage near as often as we do Ware... though I don't remember any glaring errors in his coverage performance during that Denver game.

Yeah because the double and sometimes triple teams Ware commands just isn't a litmus test on how much NFL offenses respect him.

Merriman is a freaking freak.

Happy with Ware, but I wish we had Merriman, not gunna lie. I'd take him, steriods and all.

We will see how good he is when he loses the weight and strength that he gained from the roids...

When he is back to playing at 250-255 instead of 270ish he may not be so good.

I honestly don't think they care if he stops the run or not, I think they really just want him getting after the QB. I saw him owning Tackles today, when I thought he could only get to the QB with TEs and RBs blocking him. The guy is good, now let's talk about something else.

Personally, I love Ware, but I still think we had a chance to take the best sack artist in the last decade, & we blew it. I don't care what BP says about trying to make Ware a "complete" player, LT became the greatest OLB in history by mainly getting to the QB. We don't have a great pass rush, and we could have. Ware was hired to get to the QB, & he isn't doing the job half as good as Merriman.

The thing is even if they drafted Merriman, Ware would of turned out to be better. It's the Chargers luck factor, Vick gets drafted, they get LT and he turns out to be four times they player Vick is. Eli doesn't want to go to SD, they get Rivers and he looks to be the better player. The Cowboys pass on Merriman and he turns out to be the freak player everybody thought Ware would be.

As you can see by my scientific formula I am right and have proved it with facts and truthiness. It's a contest they had no chance of winning. Don't feel bad, you can't fight fate.

yeah, i bet ware would look a lot better on the chargers. jamal williams is vastly better than jason ferguson, as is their other olb. not to mention their scheme that causes confusion, when was the last time dallas had a free guy? isn't that one of the main goals of the 3-4, confusion? unless roy comes, the rush is coming from the outside.

what i miss is last year's bull rush seemed to get the Tackle moving, this year not much.

merriman doesn't have any moves either, he pretty much just bull rushes but seems to be stronger..., although he did have one play where he put his shoulder in the T's gut and got the sack fumble. overall i'm jealous of merriman, but they got a long career to go. just like marcus mcneil and his spine.

Yeah, I mean some guy on an internet forum knows so much more about what the Dallas Cowboys defense needs than a 2 time superbowl champion NFL coach who is thought by some to be one of the formost experts in the 3-4 and especially linebacker talent.

dont compare LT to anyone because the NFL game is vastly different now with rules that favor the offense and scoring. OLBs back in tha day were not known for their pass coverage ability but they HAVE to be now.

That's it, shut every NFL forum down because NFL coaches know more about football than us.
