  • 10. Patrick Surtain II CB Alabama

    44. Richie Grant S UCF

    75. Dylan Moses LB Alabama

    99. Tyler Shelvin DT LSU

    115. Patrick Jones EDGE Pittsburgh

    138. Monty Rice LB Georgia

    179. Camryn Bynum CB California

    192. Tre Brown CB Oklahoma

    227. Alaric Jackson OT Iowa

    238. Khyiris Tonga DT BYU

Something of this nature would be the DREAM draft no doubt about it. Defense would be off and running. You are talking about two sure fire starters from day #1 and possibly 4. Could be one of the best young secondary in the NFL for the next 5 years.

Good. I hope its right.
Pitts will contribute more to putting Ws in the win column anyway.
Its 100% guaranteed we take Pitts over any defensive player in this draft if he falls to 10.

Ambry Thomas at 128 is a really good pick.

Of course, I’m maybe Pitts biggest fan on this board so that pick is great to me.

Grant And Adebo I like too.

Moses.... I’m not a fan.

and Shelvin, if they use him right, could be a very good pick.

Lots of folks down on Moses. That’s understandable. I’m hoping another year from injury will allow him to get back to what he was.

Is that what you're trying to see?

Go for it.

You're alone.

What is with that guy? He has lashed out at me a few times for giving my opinions about his posts. He may actually be 5 years old.

I chalk it up to immaturity. And try to be understanding as we were all there once.

Stash, just curious about your (really everyone who does a mock) thought process as concerns the players already on the team when you are mocking.

Its easy to forget about guys you spent resources on but didn't see much action such as R Robinson & B Anea (4th & 5th round picks last year). As well as guys like Gifford & Bernard. Sometimes those guys are ready to contribute after some developmental time and if the team believes this, the team's perception of need is different than the public perception.

Did you factor any of that into your selections or just operate under the assumption that those positions need upgraded?

Just a curiousity question, not a criticism regardless of how you approached it.

A great question and I very much appreciate your tact in asking it.

Here’s my thinking.

In terms of the linebacker position, I see nothing but question marks. Jaylon Smith isn’t playing up to his contract and LVE is a huge injury risk and a guy who’s option they may not pick up. As for Gifford and Bernard, they’re still unknowns for me either way. And I’m not sure any draft capital was invested in either guy?

Given those questions, I think the team needs a few more potential answers in this draft.

That was my thought process there.

I had one I started over where I traded down far and ended with 2 extra picks in this years draft and a teams 2nd rounder next year and Horn went off the board at 23 I had the 24th pick.

 That thing seems to intentionally know how to get under my skin and I usually stop by round five.

I think Shelvin and Tonga are the same type of DTs, the two-down, run-stopping variety. If you could have gotten a 3-tech type at 99, I think it would have been better.

I agree, but the opportunity didn’t align for me. So I decided to just take the two big run stuffers. It’s not like we can’t use as much help as we can get in that area. Our run defense has been atrocious.

That is definitely always an issue, not just in mock drafts but in the real one. We want our team to draft all the players we like. They may like them, too, but it just doesn't work out. Now, I do believe part of that is priorities and choice, but we just can't always get the players that we want.

Although I do have specific players I prefer, I'm trying to be more about positions. I believe we absolutely need to take a corner in the first couple of rounds and a DT or two within the first few rounds. I'd prefer that we also get a free safety in those first few rounds because the starter we have is just a patch and he's coming off injury.

The rest is a little more loose: I think we need a couple of linebackers to improve our depth and challenge and possibly eventually replace our starters. And I think we could use a left tackle to groom as Smith's replacement.
