This morning’s mock draft

That is definitely always an issue, not just in mock drafts but in the real one. We want our team to draft all the players we like. They may like them, too, but it just doesn't work out. Now, I do believe part of that is priorities and choice, but we just can't always get the players that we want.

Although I do have specific players I prefer, I'm trying to be more about positions. I believe we absolutely need to take a corner in the first couple of rounds and a DT or two within the first few rounds. I'd prefer that we also get a free safety in those first few rounds because the starter we have is just a patch and he's coming off injury.

The rest is a little more loose: I think we need a couple of linebackers to improve our depth and challenge and possibly eventually replace our starters. And I think we could use a left tackle to groom as Smith's replacement.

It sounds like you and I are in agreement.

I played this one straight and wasn’t tempted by trade offers. Ultimately, it’s my favorite and I feel the stars aligned to where I got almost everything done that I wanted to. A shifty speed receiver was about the only want that i didn’t get to fill. But this would be THE dream draft scenario for me.

44. Jaelan Phillips EDGE Miami (FL) - Happy to see him still available here, doubt he will be. Comes with health risks but I’m willing to take that here.

75. Walker Little OT Stanford - A perennial pet cat who ideally gets a year to catch up to the game. Should be the future left tackle.

99. Andre Cisco S Syracuse - I’ve zeroed in oh the Cisco kid as my favorite safety option. For me, he’s the biggest playmaker out of the group.

115. Tyler Shelvin DT LSU - I want a young, size and power defensive tackle added. He certainly is that.

138. Jaylen Twyman DT Pittsburgh - I also want a pass rushing defensive tackle and Twyman is like an Aaron Donald starter kit.

179. Derrick Barnes LB Purdue - A do it all linebacker I’m happy to get here.

192. Benjamin St-Juste CB Minnesota - I think he’s underrated and good value here.

227. Alaric Jackson OT Iowa - A developmental prospect and I don’t think you ever have too many options.
