I'm posting this because I think that this is the main reason this teams hasn't been successful:

When you don’t make it, you’re more conscious of what you do during the off-season as opposed to when you do go to the playoffs,” Williams said. “I think a lot of folks when you do go to playoffs, you get a little bit big-headed and you kind of don’t put in the same amount of work.

“When you don’t go to the playoffs, you remember all the bad stuff. It’s like a bad nightmare and it’s one of those things that’s going to keep driving you and driving you.” TERRANCE WILLIAMS

This was from an article in the FWST, how does an organization allow for this to happen after a team loses the first playoff game while having home field advantage throughout, do you really think that Jimmy would have allowed this attitude to permeate the lockerroom. Jason Garrett should have been gone, matter of fact he should have never been hired.

Heck, then Dallas should win it all next season

1. Can't rely on Garrett to anything but clap
2. Can't rely on our GM to do anything but hear himself talk an collect money, winning is secondary
3. A legit HC would be telling them as soon as the season ended (after seattle loss), "Feb 12th. No excuses, I can't MAKE you come in for practice because of league rules, but I can stop you from starting if you are not committed to getting in here. Everyone on the team must earn their starting job, everyone. I expect 100% participation on Feb 12th."

I really believe it has to do with the culture Garrett sets with the team. He establishes the players are already successful just for being in the room because it is hard to be an NFL player. He reinforces this believe by telling them it is hard to win in the NFL. He told the team after beating the Giants in the season opener to be proud because it is hard to hold a team to 3 points.
While this is all true, he shouldn’t put that mindset into the players.

The expectation is to win...period. If winning is too hard for those players, we will get other players it is easier to win win.

It appears winning in the post season is too hard for Garrett. Wish Jerry would see that and get a coach who finds it easier.

sadly I think you are right. You look at what BB says after a loss vs what the clapper says and there you have it

It's a quote from one player. There's no evidence here that it permeated the locker room. It's just a window into Terrance Williams' mindset.

If a lot of guys are thinking that way then they need to be moved on because, as you suggest, guys like that won't win anything.

He does not help the culture at all.

Everything is positive. The clapping, let's go, rah rah nonsense is why we never improve and we rarely look prepared when adversity hits.

He is quite simply not an effective counter balance to the massive optimistic tone that Jerry and Stephen Jones push on this franchise every season.

No coach can break the oppressive culture unless they balance out the sunshine. Until some coach comes in and prepares for the negatives, these teams will never be prepared when things go bad.

Two thoughts...#1 Terrance Williams will think about not scoring a single touchdown and have a great season in 2018.

#2 why does it take an entire season for you to realize you're not playing up to the level you were last year. After getting spanked by Denver and losing leads to the Rams and the Packers one would think, I need to raise my level of play, wouldn't one?

If there is one player thinking that way, you can bet there are more. A lot more. If a relatively quiet company guy like Williams thinks and says this, it is a pretty good barometer.

I think Garrett's good to have around, but his weakness is in-game adjustments. We need a master strategist on the sidelines that has the ability to override the coordinators as needed.

Correct. He should have never been hired but since he was and we appear stuck with him how do you propose we overcome him and Jerry?

Garrett is trying to hold together the dysfunctional situation Jerry has created.

It’s not easy being a puppet. Your basically reduced to being a motivator and cheerleader.

This is just TWill admitting to complacency . It is the head coach's job to make sure that there is none of that kind of insidious attitude killing mental illness on the team or in their minds. Think Jimmy Johnson's quote on fear (someone has it in their siggy here) :"There's No Fear in Dallas, It's a Country Club. "

“When you don’t go to the playoffs, you remember all the bad stuff. It’s like a bad nightmare and it’s one of those things that’s going to keep driving you and driving you.” TERRANCE WILLIAMS

TWill, just another mid to lower level talent that the Cowboys' front office is overpaying who has made some really dumb plays. This goes to his own mental state of mind. You think Michael Irvin or Jerry Rice sits around reminiscing on bad plays or were they visualizing being great?

Holy crapp. Didn't y'all see what he said? He said if you make the playoffs, you don't have to work as hard any more.

I don't put much stake into those comments. This team just hasn't been good enough.
You are so wrong. This team is talented enough to win playoff games but, it is NOT coached smart enough to win playoff games. I can’t believe we have fans that actually watch the games and can’t see all the little things, and big things, Garrett does to lose games AGAINST the better teams. You must have missed the post, Big D(I think that was the poster), put out explaining all the ridiculous was we have lost since Garrett has been our coach.

With a brutal schedule, injuries on the OL, a sophomore slump for our QB1, and a six game stretch without our RB1, we were STILL only 3 or 4 plays from making the playoffs. And no, I'm not embracing mediocrity--just trying to be reasonable. In this day and age, achieving consistent success is extremely rare, like the perfect storm. What the Pats have done is remarkable, but also EXTREMELY lucky. To land an "all time" guy at HC and QB, under the right owner at the right time, is like hitting the lottery.

IF we have a good offseason (DL, OL, WR, LB) and remain relatively healthy, we could/should be a strong contender in 2018. I know it's easy (and a little justifiable) to be negative, but I aspire to be hopeful and excited about the future.
