Every Cowboys site I've ever been to and been a member of (about 6-7) there seems to be people who make this comment. My question is why don't all those guys, from all those different sites, get together and have one big happy family Cowboys club.....Their world would be so much more happy and full of sunshine.
Because there is no such thing as a perfect site. I have run several forum sites over the years, and there have always been people who think the current site "is going downhill". Even if you create a new site and it seems like a perfect utopia, it will be short lived. The best sites focus on balance, rather than a single ideology. Creating a positive-only site leads to boring discussions once the newness wears off (how many times do you need to hear "Great post!" in that environment before it no longer matters?) and creating a hater-focused site leads to personal attacks and lack of quality discussions. The reason CZ has survived so long with so much traffic is that we have a great staff who all believe in striking a balance between the homers and haters. Sometimes the site starts leaning too hard one way and the staff starts cracking down on that side to bring it back.
Do I wish CowboysZone was mostly positive all of the time? Absolutely! But it is hard to ignore the lack of the Cowboys post-season success over the last 17 years. I'm ready to watch the Cowboys in late January and February again! Now, I'm not negative like some fans who seem more worried about being right about the players, coaches, owner, etc. they hate doing poorly rather than hoping we do well with what we have. Time sorts out everything and bad players, coaches, etc. will eventually be replaced if they don't produce.
In the meantime, I look at each new season as a new opportunity .. a new chance .. to have a great season. I wish more fans saved their doom-and-gloom until the end of the season when it really would be appropriate. Preaching doom-and-gloom after one game, especially one that we won against a division opponent .. in a stadium where we had never beat them at that .. just seems foolish to me.
