Dez is cool its the route tree for the wr that's the problem they are designed to get witten open look how they all seem to be near the sideline while witten romes all over the best area the middle.

They want Dez to be Julio and Dez has no ability to get separation, but only catch contested throws. There's no problem with it (if utilized right,) but Beaz/Switzer need to be the players that get the focus that can catch a clean ball with space.

Blast me all you want, but this guy's only "electric" when one on one inside the 10 yard line.

Nah, Dez is just a bad route runner. Always has been. He gets little separation. Doesnt have top flight speed to get deep. Great around the goal one on one.

For my money he is over paid and NOT an elite #1 WR.

Yeah, I mean I like the guy, but I don't think he threatens anyone outside the goal line. I don't even really see him getting doubled anymore, right?

That something would be that Dez is limited as a WR in spite of being one of the most naturally gifted players on the field at any given time. He's a hell of an athlete and can make amazing plays, but he is not a refined or complete WR in any way, shape, or form by NFL standards. 8th season in the NFL and he's still limited in his route running to such and extent that it's almost embarrassing. He creates very little separation so nearly every pass is contested. The only real variation in his route running you will find would be whether or not he's going to try to juke the defender to the left or juke defender to the right before continuing in his route. If there was a streetball equivalent in football, that's pretty much how you could define Dez's game. Doesn't show a lot of preparation, just letting natural athleticism do all the work.

Jason Witten is undoubtedly the slowest receiving threat on the team and he creates more separation than Dez could ever dream of. Even though Witten has played the majority of his career as a guy with average or worse speed, he's succeeded and continues to perform. The difference being that Jason knows his position intimately and has developed his technique to such and extent that his lack of speed has never hurt him. Doesn't hurt him even to this day. He gets open and he moves the ball. No, he's not going to get anything after the catch but a guy who cannot be covered no matter how slow he is will ultimately help his team. In both games this season he has worked his way open for a TD based solely on his knowledge of the game and technique.

I love Dez and I'm a big Dez fan, but it's hard to watch a guy with so much potential constantly rely solely on his natural ability.
