Last week it was multiple turnovers directly leading to points for the Giants, as well as the injury to Dez.

Today it was a franchise record number of penalties, not to mention the unfortunate injury to Romo.

Yet both times this team failed to give up and found a way to pick up the slack and win the game in the end. I think that is very promising. Of course, the initial indication from Romo of an 8 week recovery time (compared to the entire season) plays a big part in allowing us to continue to have some hope, as diminished as it may be at this moment.

There is light at the end of the tunnel. At some point this season, Romo will be returning to us (barring unforseen complications). If we can somehow stack up enough wins during the next 2 months to at least put Romo in position to lead us into the playoffs (even if it's only 9 wins), then we still have a good chance.

Like the Giants and Eagles teams of recent years, I see the 2015 Cowboys as a team that can get hotter as the season goes on, as we'll be gaining reinforcements as the games go by in the form of the Hardy, McClain, Dez, and Romo, probably in that general order.

On paper it seems like a virtually insurmountable mountain to overcome. Impossible, even. Speaking for myself, if I was told this offseason that Weeden, Terrance Williams, and Joseph Randle would all be the primary starters at their respective positions by week 3 of the 2015 season, I would have assumed we'd be staring 0-3 in the face while competing for the #1 pick in the 2016 draft.

But thankfully the NFL isn't played on paper, and despite the adversity this team is now 2-0 heading into week 3 against the Falcons. If this defense continues to play the way it has, 3-0 isn't out of the question. Heck, even 4-0 is a decent possibility. And then who knows from there. None of it is going to be easy, far from it. But then again, nothing is ever easy in the NFL.

But one thing I do know is that this team won't lay down for anyone, no matter who goes down. The coaching staff deserves a lot of credit for getting these men to give their all each and every week. And as long as they do just that -- continue to give their all -- one week at a time, week after week, they'll continue to have a shot in every game.

I used to have laughs at Weeden's expense, going along with the meme that he's not an NFL QB (starter or otherwise). And maybe it's true, maybe he will never truly excel at the NFL level, even as a good backup. But as it stands right now, he's the QB of the Dallas Cowboys and I'm going to stand behind him firmly during these Romo-less weeks (not literally of course, that would be a bit awkward for the both of us). Many will point to his game against the Cardinals as proof that he can't play in this league, but this is a new season... and for all we know, maybe it will finally click for him.

Maybe, just maybe, with another year of experience with this offense under his belt, with all the time during the offseason Weeden has had to gel with the offense, he will prove to be an effective stopgap during this period. I believe that he has the ability to drive this bus effectively enough for us to at least break even during this upcoming stretch. Whether he will actually be able to or not remains to be seen, but he will certainly be given every opportunity to do so.

If completely dominating an opponent and going up by 3 scores in the 4th quarter is "finding a way to win", I suggest they just stick with that way and don't bother trying to find other ones.
