This troubles me about the Henson deal, but nobody talks about much

When Delhomme signed with the Panthers in 2003, he already was 28 years old, had started only two games (both of them four years before that), had thrown only 86 passes in his career (and only 10 in the previous three seasons), had thrown only three career touchdowns with five interceptions and had a career passer rating of 68.6.

That's a sure thing, right there.

But, he had experience in Europe.

Henson could have stayed with the Yankees it was not as if they were pushing him out the door. Henson wants to play football and I think he will get the last laugh on his critics.

I'd be pretty shocked to see Parcells sit Bledsoe, regardless of how lights out Henson plays in Europe or Training Camp. Same for Romo. We are going to have at least one more season of Bledsoe.

Ain't that the truth. And I had the fortunate/Unfortunate chance to see his first start, if I remember correctly against Troy Aikman, in Superdome. Where Troy threw Int end of the game and lost the game ( I recently heard that it was Clay Shiver's fault? according to Babe Laufenberg anyway but Troy took the blame much to the gratitude for Shiver. But Troy said, its no big deal, since he was going to get blamed anyway. Babe said Clay was supposed to be TE in that formation and run the route to catch TD and he didn't even move from the Line I believe).

But I do remember him being a spunky kind of guy in that game too and thinking who the heck is this guy getting so hyped up etc.

No, that was year before I think. I didn't attend that game. Yeah from what Babe said, it was Clay Shiver, or at least thats what I heard him say. I was surprised too.

But he did say, he played TE in goal line and other situations that year.

Mine was that regardless of experience, if Henson does start around 28ish, he'd be plenty younger than Testaverde or Bledsoe.

But the part I don't get, and frustrates me to no end, is how Parcells or Jerry Jones expects to build a long term winning team with so much age at starting QB.

I do not see Hensen's age as being a factor for the same reasons others have stated above. Having said that, if Hensen plays lights out in Europe, then I believe he will be retained to compete with Romo for the #2 QB spot. Since the club is high on Romo, if Hensen beats Romo out for the #2 QB spot then that means we have two viable QBs slated for the future. So how is this a bad thing?

Shiver wasn't on the team in 1999. It must have been someone else. Solomon Page, maybe? He was a backup lineman for that game.

Here's what troubles me, and isn't brought up much.

In less than 25 days Henson will be 26. So he goes to Europe, plays a what, 10 game schedule there? And lets say he plays lights out, for argument's sake.

Does anyone believe he comes back and has ANY shot at then going into TC w/ the legit chance of being the starter for then another SIXTEEN WEEK regular season, not to mention post season play.

So now he sits for yet ANOTHER year, then at 27 gets the starting job. Now, unless he's another B. Rothlesburger <sp>, he's TWENTY FREAKIN' NINE by the time he has a FULL two years exp as a starting QB, and that's only if everything goes as planned.

Just seems like a waste, that in what could be his 4th or 5th season as a starter, we could be sitting here talking about a guy who's now in the twilight of his career, and who do we replace him with.

Henson has started 8 or 9 games since 1997. hIS Quitting football set this all back. He's nor playing because he's not ready. He can beat Bledsoe and Romo he's starting. Its that simple.

Stop blaming the world on Drew's plight. Its on him.

What difference does it make?

staubach and steve young were both 29 when named starters in their respective teams. (young did play one forgetfull years in tampa before being traded to san fran where he sat for 4 years until 1991)
