This was a golden opportunity for the Cowboys

You are wrong. Seattle was the top seed and Dallas was #3.

One could also say that Dallas was a bad call away from losing in the Wild Card round to Detroit. As for the GB game, if the Dez call had stood they would have gone for 2 and if successful only led by 3 points. Green Bay, against an inept Dallas pass defense, would have had the chance to drive down and tie or win. Hardly a forgone conclusion that Dallas wins with a ruling of a Dez catch.

I think there were a couple bad calls on that play alone (Detroit).

And it wasn't a touchdown. It was short. Cowboys could have peeled a ton of time off.

Fans of all teams are wrong at least 50% of the time when it comes to the draft.

The honest truth is highly likely none of us will know how this draft went until 2018-2019.

Nature of the beast.

I think our draft was good...I've wanted EE since the college playoffs two years ago, but never thought we would have a chance...Jaylon Smith would have never made it to our next pick...I'm okay with DT at 3 and DE at 4...We got a corner, we got Prescott in a good spot, we took a chance on Gathers...I have no problem with this draft...I think EE will affect the outcome of more games over his career than Ramsey would...JMO

We were a bad call away from going to the NFC Championship game in 2014. We'd already beaten Seattle handily earlier in the year with them at home. Correct me if I'm wrong, but we would have had home field against them in the playoffs. Very easily could have been us in the Super Bowl against the Patriots.

I wish people would stop reliving the one catch away from the NfC championship. This team has been to the playoffs ONCE in the last 6 years an fans act like we are one step away from Super Bowl every year now. Time to move on an quit reliving the 2014 season it's 2016 now.

I think you missed my point. My point wasn't to relive the situation, but to suggest that the team is better than that team and the people suggesting otherwise are being dishonest.

Just out of curiosity, wasn't Mo Claiborne one of those "once in a lifetime" CB's???

Not to worry, next year we'll b trading away 2 years worth of picks to get a franchise QB. It'll make this year's draft look awesome.

As I've said three thousand times before in 2014 nobody knew linehan's offense and we had great success . Yet people insist it was all Romo and he's back now so we're going to the Superbowl

And they came up woefully short. Other than the excitement of thinking about Zeke running behind this line, this draft was nothing but a disappointment for me. It proved once again, what I already knew. That the brass in Dallas are lost. Clueless on how to really run a franchise. No set plan what so ever. Its like they are a bunch of kids in a candy store. Supposedly Garrett said that Zeke was the player they thought could help them the most NOW!! Ok, agreed. But then they draft a kid that wont play this year and probably wont help for 3 years? They also take a QB that wont help for several years. Take a TE that was basketball player?

It's called balance. When you make a pick more "now" based you need to balance it out with a "later" based pick. Are you honestly saying that you think all picks from a draft should all be for "now" or "later" with no balance?

We came into this off season needing DE, corner, and backup QB as the most glaring needs we had to have on this team. And to date, through FA and the draft we haven't done anything in those areas to properly solve the problems.

Drafting DE would have been a "now" need as we already have DEs highly drafted, they just won't be available for 4 games is all. You seem upset we went with "now" in regards to Elliott so ????? So we should have reached for a DE (Bosa was gone, Ogbah, Dodd gone, Spence too risky) as all the top picks each round were gone when we were up. Isn't that bad value, which you seem to hate? Four games isn't an eternity to wait for our 2 staring DEs, we can make due with some Selvie-types we'll pick up if needed.

Corners, we are getting back Scandrick and could flex out Jones if no other CB steps up besides our starters (Claiborne/Carr). Need - Sort of. Extreme need - No.

Backup QB - Jerry tried to get us Lynch. Then he tried to get Cook. Then he got Dak. There's your backup QB. Can't be worse than Cassell.

For me, this if fine to some degree. I'm not all about this short term window thing. The only problem for me is that in 5 years, Zeke will be toast.

I dont really agree. Zeke is 20 years old, with no leg injury history (knock on wood). Marshall Faulk and Ladanian Tomlinson -- two good comps for Zeke -- played 11 and 10 years, respectively. Both were very productive in years 6-8.

Its possible, but not the norm. I hope so.

I disagree with the OP. I think this shows that we do have a plan and had a structured approach to the draft. Now for me personally, I would not have taken the RB with the 4th pick. I wanted them to be more aggressive, trade down as far as possible and take Lynch at that spot and use the extra picks gathered in the process to build the D and get a RB in the 3rd or 4th rounds. But they had different plans, but that does not make them idiots because they disagreed with my plan. There was a time when Jerry did what Jerry wanted no matter the cost. Those days seem to be gone with more level headed thinking. No way 10 years ago that Lynch wouldn't have been drafted by the Cowboys, now we would have given up 2 drafts to get him but Jerry would have gotten him. Now, they have a plan and they stick to it, and if they miss the guy, they move on to the next. That is how great teams are built.
