This will be Dak's third defensive rebuild. Does it matter?

Any qb thats on a team for this long goes through multiple defensive rebuilds because they have to

Is it worth it for Dak…idk…does it even matter at this point?

Nope defense doesn't matter 1 iota. Smh does it matter...did you see the defense last year?

It's refreshing to have a new DC, but wonder if it really matters? There's a solid argument that Dak's only non-choke game was 2022 season. But even that game had a slow offensive start, the defense just kept them in it.

He had franchise WRs in all these seasons, although Dez was on the way out in his rookie year. However he had best running game and offensive line of his career. Defense was pretty bad before Marinelli and DQ took over, so it can be rebuilt quickly, but also lucked into some awesome draft picks with Parsons and Diggs who quickly contributed. Benefit this year is we have a very solid interior defensive line which can easily say they never had, but holes all over the D in other positions.

No more Great Wall Dallas II remnants left. And some shaky OTs. I don't know fellow fans, maybe should have just moved on from Dak when we could. Lot of holes, and an expensive QB. And if they re-sign Pickens, a lot of money and draft picks invested in that offense. Cue the Jerry Jones GM arguments. Hope the new Coaches have some new input in the draft and free agency that can get them there.

2016 - Lost at home 34-31 to Packers.
Not a flashy defense, but #1 against run. Marinelli had managed to make something with a new 4-3 base. Secondary was weakness which allowed one of greatest QBs in NFL history to easily score. Don't forget though that Dak's slow start was also key. Pack were up 21-3 by half. Dak had best running game of his career. If we had 2026 Dak in this game, maybe they win, but rookie Dak unable to do it. Pack get destroyed by DQ's Falcons in NFC Championship game.

2018 - Lost on road 22-30 to Rams
Defense was 6th in NFL points, 7th in yards. That one season where LVE and Jaylon could still ball. Well rounded defense. Decent ends with Tank and Gregory. Another great running game and line. Coop comes in to save the passing game. Again, slow start in first half. Cowboys already down 21-3. Rams lose Super Bowl to Brady and the Pats. Only score 3 points.

2021 - Lost on road 17-23 to 49ers
Young Diggs and Parsons leading a new DQ transformed defense causing turnovers and havoc. Another slow start by the offense. Only 7 points in 3 quarters. Defense did play well enough to win the game though. 49ers lose a close one to Rams in NFC Championship game.

2022 - Lost on road 12-19 to 49ers
DQ's defense still dominating. And best playoff support Dak ever had on defense. Cowboys destroy Tampa. San Fran Round 2 is a hard fought game with mostly FGs. 9-9 into 4th quarter. Dak improving, but couldn't get over hump. 49ers move to NFC Championship game to get crushed by Philly. My guess is if Dak ends up without a ring, this is the Playoffs he looks at as the one that got away.

2023 - Lost at home 32-48 to Packers
The crushing defeat game. Defense was ranked high for season but had nothing left in Playoffs and teams had figured them out. But offense wasn't much better either. Cowboys only 7 points going into halftime. Green Bay loses next round against San Fran who wins out and finally gets over their NFC Championship Game slump.
So leave and come back when things are rosey.

Another one who’s now pandering to the haters. It’s all Dak’s fault. So couch potato. So Football 101 for Housewives. But you’ll get a lot of likes because of all the haters here so now you feel good. But in reality, you’ve outed yourself for being as ignorant as they are. Congratualations.

I don't count three. The Quinn defense was by far the best Prescott has had. If done right, this (to me) would represent the second.

It was the offense that failed the team in 2022...
This. That one was on Prescott imo. To be fair...had they retained Cooper for 2022 I think they would've met the Eagles in the title game. First time since the 1980 season. The 49ers were ripe for the plucking. The Cowboys chose wrong with Gallup. Full stop.

It does matter. It's of great importance to have a complimentary defense to maximize the effectiveness of an offense. For that reason, if you're continually rebuilding your defense, you aren't getting all you can out of your offense. That certainly hurts the bottom line... W-L record.

It only matters if we finally build a dominant defense which could carry us deeper in playoffs.

If we’re only interested in returning to our one and done playoff disappointment then average defense might be enough.

You forgot to mention the defensive stats. In at least two of those games the defense could not stop the run AT ALL.

The bigger problem appears to be that our dysfunctional ownership believes our QB and offensive is enough to carry this team further just needing a little better defense .

When Trent Dilfer is your QB you have to keep trying until something sticks.
If you look at most of his body of Playoff work, it really does feel that way. Conservative, no turnovers, and unleash it in the 4th when he realizes he doesn't have Ray Lewis, Rod Woodson, Goose and the gang on the other side.

Should've gotten past the Niners in '22 when the defense played their best. Next game would've been the Eagles who don't play well against us. Gardner Minshew in the regular season game against us was better than Hurts was at any point in the regular season that year.

They only beat the crap out of the Niners because the Niners were down to the 4th string QB.

Dak deserves blame for his poor performance games but I don’t care what anyone says or what rankings say with my own two eyes you know what it takes to win in this league. You need good coaching, good QB play and a good defense. You need to be tough physically. You can’t cheat it. You have to be tough and physical in the trenches. Giving up 200 rushing yards isn’t that. Not getting off the field on 3rd down isn’t it.

There’s a certain standard when it comes to winning and physicality. Soft teams don’t win SBs. They will make the playoffs and get exposed.
This

During Romo's starting career Dallas made the playoffs 3 times.
In those years he had a top 10 defense 4x, 2 of those being 2007 & 2009 (ranked 9th both times)
2014 arguably his best season the defense was 19th and most years were mid with a couple historically bad
Only twice did he have a runningback break 1k yards (Demarco- 2013, 2014) and 2014 was the 'Dez caught it' divisional game
I'd say support matters
and we had an owner with a coach that was allowed to waste it.

Pretty much. This is why I've been beating the drum about Dak being a choker. It's a waste of time to build around someone who can't handle the pressure. He's on his 4th NFL life and counting...with nothing really to show for it but stat padding and moral victories.

With all that said, let's review all the great coaching he and the rest of these teams were led and coached by.

Oh wait....

When Trent Dilfer is your QB you have to keep trying until something sticks.

If Trent Dilfer was with your recent Philly teams, he'd have won atleast 3 Superbowls with Smith, Brown and Barkley.

Too bad your boys are stuck with the new version of Tim Tebow now. He's the King of the Tush Push though, I'll give him that.
