After watching all four pre season games I really think that we need to look for some other back ups tomorrow. After the first string went out, it always seemed that our play went down the tubes. This years draft class sucks and Im usually not like that towards young guys. When the best player you drafted is a kicker well, that should tell you something. It should also be a lesson learned when everybody wants to trade down before the draft and acquire later picks. Those later picks(5-7rd) are hard to hit on. I know we got Ratliff but in general odds are low. Most, if not all of those extra picks from this years draft will be cut after next season imo. Look at this season. Im hard pressed to say if anyone's ever going to contribute to this team besides Bueleuer. The two linebackers are just as advertised, athletic, but thats about it. Ill give these two a few years to develope. I know the ones hurt and the other plays ST. Im not trying to be a negative guy either but if you think anyones going to be a player from this years draft class Im all ears. We defintly got too cute this time around. I do give credit to the team for hitting on drafts before this though but I really think we struck out this time around.

ps,Olgertree doesnt count because he was undrafted

IMO, I don't care if we draft the player or convince the player to give it a shot as an UDFA.

Our scouts/staff should get as much credit for getting guys like Romo, Bill Bates, etc to camp as UDFAs versus draft picks, in my opinion.

31 other teams also could have secured these guys' services, but they didn't. We did.

As for this draft class, once again way to early to tell. But given all the injuries, we're going to have to wait and see if guys like Brewster have something to contribute down the line.

I do like Buehler, J Phillips, J Williams, and V Butler, however.

I think guys like Brewster, Hodge, Hamlin, and B Williams and McGee can potentially be players down the line as well. Maybe not All-Pro, but I think they can potentially contribute.

I'm not sure what to make of Mickens and D Smith. Not sure if they even make the 53 man roster. But like the rest of them, we'll have to wait and see I suppose.

This isn't college football. Stop worrying about what rookie's are doing, it takes three years for them to develop. The most overhyped event in the NFL is the NFL draft and the expectation of fans for these wet behind the ear rookie players. Four will be probably be on IR, and the rest are special teamers and backups, the starting roster is set, what rookie is ready to take a starting job away from someone on this team, the answer is none. Trading up in the draft assures you what!!!

Tell me, which has a better chance of getting players that can help you down the line long term, drafting five players, or drafting twelve. you might get one or two out of the five that help you long term, but you might get five or six out of the twelve. Just because you're drafting players higher in the draft, doesn't assure you better talent, just higher salaries. How has higher round picks helped us in recent years by taking Rogers, Carpenter, Peterman, Marten, etc... to name just a few...it hasn't so stop worrying about rookie players, you shoud be talking about how second and third year draftee's are progressing and how many of those have stepped forward and made themseves into long term contributors on the team

You can't judge a draft after the rookies first year preseason. 3 years and you are safe way to declare a draft as great/bust.

I fine this all funny all the teams go through this when are you ever goign to start an entire second to 4th team on the field at the same time during the regular season. In camp and Preseason you rotate in guys all the time there are 5 times the mistakes as normal some teams put a premium on winning in Preseason those are teams that generally gone 0-16 the year before and they are attempting to change a culture.

You also realize coaches put players in certain situation in the game you do not ever see in the regular season to see how players respond from play calling to scheme.

This is typical over reaction by fans on what preseason one solid 1/4 of a preseason game doe snot make it true.

In fact the Vikes have been a team a lot of people said will be a contender this year according to people's logic on this board the Vikes suck and most there backups are worse than ours I mean they did lose to us and we are horrible. :bang2::bang2:

Do not forget the Titans I mean they are going 3-13 because we beat them and we lost to the Raiders oh my good we are going to go 0-16

If you honestly think anyone from this draft class is going to help us this year or any year for that matter is just positive thinking.

Jason Williams: injured
Robert Brewster: injured
Mcgee: injured
Butler: playing well
Brandon Williams: injured
Deangelo Smith: not playing well
Mike Hamlin: injured
Stephen Hodge: injured
Buehler: playing well
John Phillips: playing well
Mickens: sub par
Manny: sub par

I could be wrong but didnt Brandon Williams have an ACL injury this year. Not an easy injury to come back from and in most cases takes two years. Brewster had a torn peck muscle and that could be an injury that keeps popping up with the grind of a lineman just ask Batista from wrestling. He had 3 of these surgeries in almost two years. DeAngelo Smith and Mickens are playing so good and we think so highly of them that we signed some free agents this week instead letting these guys play the whole game. John Phillps you say is playing well but how is he going to get on the field with Witten and Bennett? Hodge already has a bad knee that doctors say could cut his career in half.

Again, Im not normally quick to jump on a draft class but I really think this one will go down as one of our worst in franchise. Just my opinion. If you look at this class do you see anyone becoming a star if you had to pick one right now?

Lets be honest, our guys gave up 31 points to the Vikings. Our offense scores 7 points with our second team and 7 more with our 4th string guys, the other 21 points came off fluke plays. The Viking QBs were just throwing the ball to us. It wasnt even like they were making good plays. They just sat in their zones and the QB threw it right to them. Do you think that happens in the regular season? On top of that, how often do you see a play that Jesse Holley made? Last nights game was a fluke.

Smith, Mickens and Manny Johnson were all just cut. That goes with injuries to Hodge, Wililliams, Williams, Brewster, Mcgee and Hamlin. That leaves Butler, Phillps and Buleuer as the only three from the draft class that has a chance to contribute. How can you say this was a good draft? Out of those one is a kicker and the other will probably not dress on Sundays(Phillps).

Most QB's like McGee do not contribute right away so I am lost here you groom QB's and trade them or keep them as your back up after 2-3 years.

Ijuries happen also the rookies this year played a lot of reps in the preseason my god we glad lost a 3rd round pick to injury and no Dware.

Funny how people like you talked about how bad a draft Pick Bennet was last year. You sound like Texan fans after Mario Williams struggled with injuries his 1st year and played ok as the 1st overall pick and fans where crying how they past on Bush and VY how that turn out ?

7th round picks if you look at the wavier wire a lot of 5th-7th round picks where cut by a lot of teams many will end up on PS whats the big deal.

Most players 3rdor lower take a year 2 years to contribute big time. Bradie James did nothing his 1st year and people called him a bust like you are now on several players.

Over reaction in two years I will let you know

First of all this is the first year I ever complained about draft picks. I really feel we screwed up this year and I dont have alot of confidence any of these players doing anything in the NFL. As for past drafts, I liked our drafts the last few seasons and Martellius Bennett is an athletic freak.

You wrote "7th round picks if you look at the wavier wire a lot of 5th-7th round picks where cut by a lot of teams many will end up on PS whats the big deal."

Then why did we trade down so darn much this year when all we did was pick up extra 5's through 7's? That is my biggest compliant. We got too cute and it shows with our draft class.

so if players don't contribute in their rookie year then they are busts... great logic! [/sarcasm]

They also ended up with two thirds and three fourths.

Big Dog, who do you think is going to be a player for us and why?

I won't call it our worst draft ever, but it is close. Jerry started thinking he was smart after last years draft.

Tom Ciskowski and the scouts not Jerry are the ones who are responsible for the picks.

I still think that Jerry had some financial pressures this year. Ware notwithstanding, we shed a lot of salary and potential salary $'s this year - not talking just cap $'s but actual out-of-pocket salary as in the case of TO.
