Not shocking. I think the idea has been to live or die with Austin and Hurd behind Williams and Crayton. I have no issue with that plan of attack either.

Yea, noway Jerry signs a vet WR after basically saying the reason TO was released to was give the younger WRs a chance.

It would contradict his entire reason for releasing TO. Thus, no chance of this happenning.

If we were going to sign a veteran WR I would prefer it to be Marvin Harrison. Partly for depth but mostly as a mentor to the young WRs on how to run routes properly.

That said, I don't see us signing any WR over 30 and likely we will just look to the draft for another guy.

Marvin has more than likely played his last down in the NFL.

Austin has a knee injury and there will be an outcry of, 'Why didn't we get Holt when he was available?"

The argument has been let our young guys progess.

So what if they don't get any better?

Contingency planning means you allow for every possibility. There are two distinct possibilities not having a PLAN B ignores. Injury or lack of improvement.

Last year Romo went down and we saw what happened with Bradley. The hue and cry from every site over this misstep in planning was deafening.

Let's hope the receivers stay healthy and improve. Or places like this will be questioning this non-move.

Considering Jerry emphatically stated that he released TO to give the young guys a chance to develop, to even suggest that he would sign him would make Jerry the ultimate idiot as far as marketing his move to release TO goes....

What team are you guys following? Jerry never said he released Owens only to give the younger guys a chance.

Why do people only hear what they want?

Jerry has said more than once that giving the younger guys a chance and his belief in those guys, especially Austin, was ONE of MANY factors in the final decision to release Owens.

It was also a play for or move to improve team chemistry.

It was a move to help Romo become more of a leader.

It was a move to save cap dollars in 2010 needed for other players.

Now with all that said. A veteran FA signing for the right deal would not ruin or undo any or all of what they are attempting to do with the Owens release.

Signing Holt under the right pretense (expected role) and contract could be a good thing.

It won't hold down the young guys. Best players will play.
It won't hinder Romo ability to lead.
And if he comes cheap enough, it wont killl the cap.

Thank You.

I can't believe so many don't see this.

Do I know Holt would be a good signing. No
Am I confident and somewhat enthusiastic about Austin. Yes

But we just went through a rough season with injuries.

I know many on this board want the shew it away, and refuse to except it as a valid, contributing factor to our failure. But go and count up the games lost to injury to both starters and reserves in 2008 and compare that to seasons past.

2008 was the worst year for injuries I can remember.

That's what I'm thinking too. Especially since both Austin and Hurd have both missed signigicant amounts of time due to injurey every year they've been in the league. If either one or both get hurt (and given their track record that probability is pretty high) then we are in deep trouble.

Since that is what was said when TO was released, that is exactly what I would have expected.

But that is a ruse..... :)

I'm not certain that Austin et al can replace TO but they seem to actually think so. I find that encouraging.

Jerry Jones really believes in Miles Austin... Romo and the WR coach much know something.

Like Carpenter

...this could go on

I am not knocking anyone. But the idea that because they took one guy over another, or retained the services of opne player doesn't mean it is a slam dunk deal the player will prosper here.

You have to let RAW talent develop... Miles Austin will enter his 4th year now so we will see.
