Interesting battle for the #3 RB. Thought Davis was the best back last night, kind of reminded me of Phillip Tanner. He also had a good kickoff return. Dowdle played well, but there seems to be more juice from Davis thus far.

Dowdle got 5 more carries and only 7 more yards than Davis.
still i think Dowdle for one is more consistent and for two has done it in the regular's season and 3 hes starts the games when the better players are on the field..

good problem to have but Dowdle the most NFL ready and most likely wins the job..they could go long at RB by not carrying a FB...i like all 3 young backs but again Dowdle the 3 for me right now..

Davis is better but bet they don’t care. Davis and dowdle probably both better than zeke. I’m keeping 4rb. Can Davis play special teams?

Dowdle also plays special teams. I agree, this will be a close battle for that final 3rd RB spot. Maybe the unknown in Davis being a first year player helps him in such a close competition with Dowdle, who has been with the team for 2 years already.

I think Davis is slightly more talented than Dowdle but Dowdle is by far the best suited for the NFL game at this point. He knows the system, will stand in and block, albeit not as well as I would like but he gets in the way.. Davis has a lot more to learn but he's better with the ball under his arms. Will be an interesting choice. My guess is Davis to the practice squad. There are 25 rookie running backs who can tote it but not much else in camps this summer so I think he'll be safe there. I think he takes the #3 job from Dowdle next year though.

You take the better special teams player between Davis and Dowdle, if either were to see significant playing time we would be in trouble at the running back position.

Pending the possible/ probable departures of Elliott and Pollard next spring...is it a good stratigy to keep both for this upcoming season - and beyond?
Or - the Cowboys ride with either Davis and Dowdle for 2022 - no RB4.

With major talk on Dallas moving on from Elliott in 2023, I really think Davis, Dowdle, & Shampklin are auditioning for a shot at RB2 in the future.

Disagree they are better then zeke at this point. Either one should be fine starting even.

What I like about them both is that they are what I call "clever" runners. With both you see what looks like a tiny hole turn into 6-7 yards just because they are able to "get skinny" and pop through for positive yards. Not every running back has that skill. Some guys need gaping holes to gain yards. These two just need the proverbial 18 inches of daylight. I should note that Dowdle is clearly not all the way back from his injury because he simply is not nearly as explosive as he was in his two previous camps. Between the hip and the knee one wonders how much starch has been taken out of his game.

For me Dowdle isn't even in the running. It's between Davis and Shampkin with Davis in the lead. He runs between the tackle and finishes runs.

I think the coaches really like Dowdle, so he is still in the running.

I think 1 will be back next season, not sure you want either backup being the main guy.

I like them both, but lean towards Davis. He really fights for those extra yards, he's just a little more physical. I like Shamp too, but there's too much in front of him.

Funny thing about the running back position is... if we use Pollard and give him more touches, like most of us want, we probably lose him after this year.

Zeke's pay versus production always seems to have him on the chopping block. So, imagine Pollard leaving for a better offer, while Zeke refuses to take a pay cut. The potential is there for us to lose both the Zeke and Pollard.

With the salary cap being what it is, I don't think any running back deserves a big payday. I'd rather we spend that money on a defensive side of the ball. Keeping players like Diggs and Parsons is a must to this defense, IMO. So, seeing guys like Davis and Dowdle go out there and produce, puts a smile on my face. We can have a decent run game and a top notch defense with either of those guys.

But let's just hope these numbnuts find away to KEEP Pollard.

These guys are a perfect example of why you dont need to spend big draft capital on a RB. As long as the Oline gets a good push, which it has been in preseason any solid back is going to get the yards. What makes a back special is his ability to hit the big plays both inside and outside. To make something out of nothing. To make guys miss. To make a 4 yard run a 30 yard run.
