Thoughts about hiring Cameron to Cowboys?

I think Cameron is a lot like Norv Turner. I still consider Cameron a great assistant and he helped develop two QB's in San Diego. I'm not excusing him for his terrible season in Miami. Yes, Miami had problems but it shouldn't have warranted a 1 win season. I think he was a poor manager but I think he is an intelligent assistant. If Sparano and/or Garrett leave, I would entertain bringing Cameron here. Right now, he is a lot of negative press which is why I think it's a good time to sign him in some capacity. He is a very talented coach that can be had for cheap at the moment. Thoughts?

There isn't an opening for him yet. Of course that didn't stop me from thinking about Mike Solari for Ol Coach if Sparano leaves.

My point though is I don't think OC is going to be an open spot here. Sparano will go to Miami. Garrett isn't going anywhere. We need an OL Coach. Cameron will be an OC.

I wish I had your confidence. Baltimore is going to come calling.

And Garrett has also agreed to interview with the Falcons. If Jerry has a plan in place to keep him, then I'm not sure why Garrett is doing that interview.

Anyway, if Garrett leaves, Cameron would be a great choice to replace him IMO.

We've had coaches get interviews before and they didn't leave. payton with the Raiders for instance.

I just don't think either of those 2 jobs are at all attractive for someone like Garrett. This is where he wants to be.

Of course if Soprano leaves for Atlanta or Miami they could promote Garett to Soprano's position (Assistant head Coach I believe) and hire Cameron to OC. I would not be opposed to that. Although Cameron might.

That is a great point that often gets overlooked.

For the record, I'm not a big Cameron fan.

If the worst case happened I would hope we would stay within and promote Sherman. I think he has the trust of the players especially 1 player who trust is a must as long as he is here. Sherman has years of experience in the league and has a very good understanding of this offense working along with Garrett in the passing game.

only objection id have is that who would he be replacing? id love to have him but highly doubt he would want to be demoted to a positions coach just to be here .

If he is replacing garret (which i dont see happening. his first year as an OC and they want him to rebuild a crappy team already) then sign him as soon as Garret walks out of his office

Cameron + Solari/Houck = Garrett + Sparano

The former might even be better.

(Though I still don't think Garrett is leaving.)

I think Garrett would be crazy to leave Dallas for Baltimore or Atlanta.

Baltimore is not talent rich IMO. They need a QB (which is going to take a few years to develop if drafted), they need help at OL and at WR IMO. Defensively, they have talent but some of that is getting older. Add to the fact that not just anybody will be able to step in with that defense and coach them. They have ideas of there own with regards to there defensive personel. Ryan was well respected there. I suspect that not just anybody will be accepted as DC. No, I think Garrett is too smart for that. He knows that he could turn out with a situation like Cameron faced in Miami if he's not careful. Why take that risk when you don't have to?

Atlanta might be a good place for him but I think they are going to want a more veteran guy. They have real problems on that team that will need a disciplinarian type coach IMO. I just don't see them taking another chance on an unproven, unexperienced guy like Garrett. I mean, Garrett is not unexperienced as a HC in the NFL, he's unexperienced as a HC at any level.

Yeah, too bad Zimrod didn't take that Nebraska gig when it was offered to him. I assume he is out of work as well in 2008 when the new Atlanta HC comes in.

If they both leave we have to remember that Wade has been in this league for 32 years and like he said when he was hired there are alot of good coaches out there. He knows a lot of people and he will find competent people to replace the ones we lose. Ray Sherman can be the offensive coordinator, he has done it before.

Doubt that we'd do that -- Garrett would have both jobs. What we'd need is an OL coach, not an OC

You guys are in denial. This guy has only one year as an offensive coordinator and you are trying to tell me that if he is offered a head coaching job (I don't care WHAT team it is with) that he is going to turn it down? Come on now.

The Turdmeister is wildly overpaying Saunders and Williams to keep them from straying. Jerry will do the same if he feels so inclined.
