Thoughts on Bradie James?

While all of this drama is going on about JJ, Stephen, Garrett, and T.O., I want to get thoughts on James.

Although he looks ok against the run and can get to the QB on certain schemes toward the end of the season, I really don't think that this D will ever take the next with him running the show.

I really think he affects our safety play quite a bit, and he looks completely lost in coverage. Crossing routes and seams it looks like he is a step late. Not only because he isn't very fast, but he also looks unsure of what to do.

Does anyone else feel the same way about him or is it just me?

I thought James had a very good season and hope he continues

James is a quality player whos character makes him a BUM. He doesn't know what it truly means to be a Cowboy and he is of poor character as a teammate. He talks to the media under the condition that his name isn't used and say negative things.

The guy is a good player, but if I could replace him with someone with more heart and team spirit, I would do it in a heart beat.

.

and you know this how exactly? are you using some of Werder's super-duper "unnamed sources"???

You have NO idea what you are talking about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bradie wants to win big time. And he has NO character issues whatsoever!!!!!

Bradie is still a liability in coverage, but he's a solid player. I think for him to be able to take the next step as a leader, he'd have to cut out giving up those big passing plays.

It's hard to chew out a guy when you keep getting beat.

He had a good year last year, and he plays hard. He is not a good leader however. The Cowboys need someone else to step up to be the defensive/team captain.

According to the messageboards he's a huge liability in coverage, but according to the two NFL HCs who have over 60 years combined coaching LBs in the NFL, he's good enough to play in nickel.

Makes one wonder.

there's no room for such logical perception on this board. get out of here with that stuff.

I would have liked to see Zach Thomas play his spot to see how much he could have accomplished, but it wasn't going to happen. Zach was playing out of position, and as he himself stated, he would like to play on a team where he has that role. Bradie was isolated easily on passing downs, especially in the last few games. It was him getting burned that resulted in the check-down pass that resulted in that 40 plus scramble on the dump-off when McNabb got out of the pocket, I believe in the second.I'll say this though.. Bradie played extremely well in the 4-6 packages employed by Wade and is a pretty good run-stuffer.

I've always liked Bradie James, often time one of the few. He reminds me very much of the types of players we had on defense in the 90's. Guys like Tony Cassillas, Tony Tolbert, Larry Brown, Thomas Everett, Vinson Smith. Not superstars or glamorous guys who sell jerseys or make soda commercials. Not freak of nature athletes. Just guys who went out, prepared, knew their role and assignments down cold, milked the most out of their God given talent and played with passion, pride and dedication. Pro's pros. When you get a group of about 9 or 10 of those kinds of guys playing together in synchronization and sprinkle in one or two legit superstar gamechangers, it can be a powerful thing. That's when you get 1992 Dallas Cowboys defense or the 2001 Baltimore Ravens defense.

That's why it always strikes me funny when so many people on the messageboards want to run off Bradie James, when in my mind we sorely need to find 8 more like him.

He really won me over this year. Thought he played outstanding. Was a difference maker out there.

He was oustanding because of the coach you want to dump took over the defense. There is no way Bradie would have continued to be outstanding, if it weren't for the fact, Wade Phillips started to employ various packages, among them the 4-6, that people like Garrett and his crew of assembled coaches would have no clue about how to defend.

Amen. I don't think he's perfect, but this team needs more of him.

The fact is right now it appears Phillips will remain as HC, and if so in control of the defense. Hence James is a quality fit here and played at a high level the 2nd half of this season.

Even if another coach were to come in, if we continue to employ the 3-4 what James does well is very obvious from looking at tape. I have a hard time believing they'd totally change what we are doing.

Bradie James:

Over rated
One of our many players who needs to shut up
Overrated by whom?

Overrated, to me, implies that he's considered more than just a solid player.

Most tend to think he's a solid player. Do you think he plays less than solid based on what he's asked to do?
