Thoughts on Brady's appeal

I think he wants a complete exoneration. He doesn't care about the money(2m) and the 4 games will hurt but Bill will use it as a rallying cry.

But he will forever be known as a cheater if the suspension holds. I thought the case was strong but circumstantial, but it was only because Brady didn't turn over his phone. That is why I think it stands. Players MUST cooperate.

Integrity of the game offenses are probably worse than off field transgression. I think you can lose twice as many fans if there is even a slight inkling of cheating in the sport and nothing is done.

Good point. Your legacy doesn't take a hit if you're a bad person off the field. Nobody questions LT was maybe the greatest defensive player ever.

I think he wants a complete exoneration.

My freshman year in college I was on a ministry team that went in the county jail every Monday nite. We were able to wander around the jail and talk to the populants. They all wanted to be exonerated and all of them were just "victims" of the system. In other words, like Brady they didnt do a thing.

Anything less than the FULL 4 game suspension being upheld will make Goodell look like a bigger clown than he already is.

Plus they have requested that Brady send along additional phone record information and Ted Wells will sit in on the hearing.

Who has requested? I assume you meant the league requested, but I don't know what "records" that Brady could provide today that could be helpful. I've heard on radio talk shows that Roger could request or that Brady could volunteer to hand over his phone today to clear the record on the "noncooperation" part of the logic behind the suspension, but unless they have an expert there to make sure nothing was deleted, etc., I don't see how handing over the phone today would solve anything. I would assume that if Brady had damning texts in there that he would have attempted to sanitize his phone (a long time ago), but I also imagine that there are ways to find anything if you have the right person with the right knowledge. Goodell will reduce the suspension to 1 or 2 games and move on, IMO.

I think the carrier keeps record of all texts and such but for how long I don't know. Maybe subpeona the NSA maybe they have record and I am sure they will be much more cooperative than brady. I kid....

Maybe a FOIA request to China or Russia for Brady's records would work.

Are there laws that would allow an employer to seize an employee's phone?

Bet Mass. has laws protecting Brady from what the NFL wants.

Ahhhh.... You do not need an expert on the phone.
You need to give, in this case, the NFL permission to get records from the phone company.
They keep all contacts and TEXT messages in their files. it's called backups.
Brady was not forthcoming on providing phone and text messages when requested in the second go around with the NFL.
It was in the Wells report.

As for the suspension reduction - I do not agree and think it will fully stand.
Read the Wells report in full. Smoking guns all over the place.

Why would he reduce the suspension? Goodell is the one that meted out the punishment. Unless new evidence exonerates Brady and points to someone else ordering the deflation then there is no reason to reduce the punishment. This is like PED suspensions, they are either overturned or upheld.

OK, thanks for the info on the phone records. As for the suspension reduction (and I did read the Wells Report almost entirely...glossed over the scientific data), I certainly could be wrong, but I just think Goodell gives in to the golden boy/Kraft. If the NFL sticks to their belief of what went down, then the suspension should not be reduced. But we are talking about the Patriots, after all...color me cynical.

Oh, I agree with your points, it's just that I think Goodell caves to appease Kraft. This is different from PED's in that PED offenses have specific punishments prescribed for violations, whereas Brady's punishment for deflategate is pretty much at the Commish's discretion. As I stated in a response above, I'm just cynical that Goodell will not play favorites here, though I hope I'm wrong.

That makes sense.

Any suspension at all is a killer to Brady though.

Agreed. If the Commish sticks to his guns, you can bet that Brady takes him to court unless going to court would mean that his phone records are subject to subpoena (I'm not 100% sure about that one). If he has damning evidence in there, then I doubt he would go that route.

I did read over it all and the tech things on the phone records.

I really think they will keep the 4 games. If Goodell backs down then it opens the door to other things.

And you're making me think. If Brady wants NFL game balls at lesser pressure. Then their kicker(s) must use same level of pressure.
The rock goes furthur when inflated to 13 psi for the kicking game.

You are right about the kicking distance with more inflation and I hadn't thought about that before you brought it up, but the "K" balls are kept separately (don't know if they're treated differently, but they are a separate batch). Seems to me all footballs should have the same pressure regardless of whether they're "K" balls. Will be interesting to see.
