Look. If Mazi was more polished he'd have been a top 10 pick. He was available because he lacks technique. He was rated so high because of size, strength, agility, and potential. He's already the best young DT we have. Hankins might be better today but Mazi should only get better and hopefully shouldn't take more than a year to really be about equal to him.

Mazi had a good reviews in the 1st game. I suspect that he wasn't as bad as people are saying in game 2.

My sentiments as well. We got the guy late in the first which means he had a second round grade, odds on him coming in and destroying the league right out the gate were slim and none despite what the Cowboys media hype machine says. Give the guy some time to develop,,,, IIRC DeMarcus Lawrence didn't even flash until late in his first season.

Most of you would have cut Tolbert after year 1. So your football knowledge might not be what you think it is. Have any of you thought about that … might be why be you are watching football and people are actually getting paid to evaluate and coach up talent…and I trust DQ will coach him up and turn him into the run stopper we want…but patience is lost skill.

Bet the Cowboys FO & coaches thought he was gonna pick things up quicker than he is at the moment. Didn't know how much more work he really needs. Not to say he is a bust..., but he does need a lot more practice than was expected. Good thing they have Hankins and need Bohanna, Osa or Gallimore to show up. If he plays like this next week, don't think he'll be starting week one.

Mazi has looked like garbage so far. This is the second week in a row he’s getting pushed around by second and third stringers. I’m not sure Taco’s performances in his first two preseason games were as alarming bad as what I’ve seen with Mazi. I get that he’s a young player, but you don’t see first round draft picks that end up being great players look this disappointing in preseason.

Uh, in fairness, Tolbert was a mid-round pick. Those guys often need development.

It's disappointing that our first round pick has struggled thus far. Granted, there is no need to just give up now on him, but nonetheless, teams expect 1st round picks to make an impact and I am not sure what we are going to get out of Mazi this year at this point.

He looked slow in the first game and was still getting pushed around. McCarthy was asked about his play in game one and simply said he’s a young player. He said he needs work like everyone. It was obvious he wasn’t happy with his performance. There were several tweets by those who cover the Cowboys last night posted during the game chat who were ripping his performance.

He hasn’t looked good so far. He hasn’t looked anything like you would expect from a first round pick. We picked for need and it appears we may have made a mistake. The jury is still out, but he’s getting pushed around by second and third stringers and looks slow. He looked worse than he did in the first preseason game.
