Thoughts on RB/FB Brian Leonard?

he isn't a fullback he played one year I think at that position and was forced into it because a better RB came into the program. He isn't a FB he is a big back with single cut tendencies. He has potential but its not as a FB like what you are asking. He is more of a west coast offense catching out the back field and running between the tackles kinda guy, not a lead blocker. besides the fact he doesn't want to play FB anyways, so that would be starting things off wrong imo.

I imagine that he will play FB if that is what NFL teams see him as. The draft boards I have looked at have him as a FB, not a tail back. I see him as a Cooley kinda guy, maybe more of an H Back.

But we need to look at the FB position. Need a good run blocker that can catch out in the flats and on screens. This guy is about the only thing out there that would fit the bill.

If he was there in the third, I would grab him.

heh, we do need a few more threads on the guy. :) in all fairness they roll off quickly.

If Garrett's being heavily influenced by Turner's offense, Turner's system uses an H-back/F-back type role, and that's exactly what we drafted Fasano to be. Maybe a year of pro weight training and experience will help Fasano out on his blocking. He doesn't have a problem running routes and catching, that's for sure.

:hammer:

Silly me, I was under the impression that we drafted Fasano to back up Witten and be a part of the two TE scheme that was so talked about last offseason.

Regardless, it didn't work out. Fasano may be a good backup, but he does not seem to have the skills that Leonard has.

Leonard can be a lead blocker, that is not his best skill, but he is better than what we have had around here since Moose. He can also be a good RB option, as well as an excellent pass catcher. He can line up all over the field and confuse defenses.

We don't have that and it would add a degree of unpredictability to the offense, which I think Garrett is trying to implement.

I don't think Leonard is like Alstott, actually I think he is much more like Richie Anderson, but a better lead blocker.

Actually, he was a Tailback his freshman year at Rutgers and moved because the Fullback was injured. I don't think he will be a RB in the NFL but I do think that he could be one heck of an HBack. If a team like Washington got him, I would be very worried.
