I can't imagine the Skins passing up Albert at 21. Joe Bugel loves him. But frankly, I don't see him being there for the Skins either, I would be shocked if he didn't go in the top 15. So that leaves trading down. I think there are lots of teams looking at trading down, the Skins being one of them, so there's really no guarantee that you will be able to - although in the past for whatever reason the Cowboys have always been in the right place at the right time to trade down.

please

take Albert before us

and mason, why do you think Dallas is in love w/ Albert?

Well thought and written post masomenos85. I enjoyed reading that. A couple of thoughts:

But I don't think Branden Albert makes it to 22. I can't see us moving up to get him.

Chilo Rachal is a very interesting player. He could be taken just about anywhere. If he starts to slide, some team will trade up to get him.

I see only two flaws with this train of thought. I do not think Austin is dead in the water and why was there not a DT taken?

Because in the predraft press conference Jerry Jones said there was an OL who could make an immediate impact. I think that's what you want from your first round picks, that they can come in and contribute right away. Like I said in one of the other posts, an upgrade to LG may be the easiest way to improve the offense. You'd get a player who makes an impact every single down where if you take a RB he's a guy to share the load and if you get a WR then he's playing in spot duty at best, especially in this years WR class. I just think it makes a lot of sense. I hadn't even really though about before I read what Jerry said and then it just kind of clicked for me.

Now, I think he'll probably be gone by 22 so it's something people won't have to worry about. But I think if he did fall to us then we would take him. That's just my take on things though. If you have a chance to improve your offense on an every down basis then I don't see anything wrong with that.

The reason given for KC sniffing around Albert at 5 is that they are said to believe he is capable of being converted into a left tackle - thereby justifying the premium position in the draft.

But if they want a LT why wouldn't they just take a true LT rather than a player who played two games at tackle in college and is going to face a learning curve? Ryan Clady carries nearly the same exact ranking as Albert and some think he's the best pure LT in the draft. Why wouldn't KC take him at 5? It just doesn't make sense.

I think Austin is one of the most easily replaced players on the offense. Hurd is a better WR and a better ST coverage guy so the only thing saving Austin is him being a decent kick returner. But think that could be upgraded fairly easily as well. As far as a DT we'd have the option to let Ratliff play there again, sign someone after June 1st cuts or draft someone late as a rotational guy. We have quite a bit of depth at DE so letting Ratliff do it again may not be a bad option.

And I guess I should make an amendment since out 4th was just traded for PacMan. In the mock, just move the question mark from the 4th round to the 5th and I think that's good. Perhaps that ? in the 5th could be a DT like someone else mentioned. Everything else stands.

Good stuff, but I think Branden Albert is now being considered a top 10 guy. He's going as high as No. 5 to Kansas City in some mocks.

Yep. Man this guy is on fire. And JC is not going to be there at 61. Probably not Rice either although not so sure about that one.

I was thinking Charles or Rice with the earlier second that we acquire in a trade down, not lasting all the way to 61. Probably more like 40 or so.
