  • Our defensive line stunk it up. They were getting pushed off the line on every run play.
  • On one run play, Chris Collinsworth said Oshansky got pushed off the line, but in fact, he actually held his ground. (it was the NT that got whipped) Several people on the board erupted that Oshansky got beat again. It is 100% true that many fans take other peoples word for it and will damn players even if what was said was not true. (not that I think Olshansky has been playing well by any means. He just wasn't beat on that play)
  • With the defensive line issues, sucks to hear that Marcus Spears is injured. Hopefully he will be back soon.
  • If Bailey can't kick a touchback from the 30 yard line in three attempts, I'm not sure I want him over Buehler. Now, the Cowboys could have intentionally not kick touchbacks. If that is the case, then nevermind.
  • McGee is looking better this year, but he is still makes a few pretty bad decisions. That said; if he matures again the same amount he did over the last year, he might be ready for a promotion to primary backup next year.
  • I was a big fan of Lonyae Miller last year. This year not so much. Tanner looks like Miller did last year. (maybe a little better)
  • Nagy >>>>>>>> Arkin
  • While I think Arkin's has a long way to go. I think the NFL is over Young's head. I just don't think he can play in this league. Maybe a little early for that, but his play is ugly and it doesn't look like just technique. He gets beat physically too.
  • It was extremely disappointing to see Scandrick consecutively get absolutely torched on the first two plays of the Chargers second possession. He was left in the dust on the second completion. Literally like five yards behind. It was ugly.
  • Romo's INT was 110% his fault. It is as if he wasn't even looking at the defense.
  • I think Choice's attitude and now his current injury is going to do him in. The only way he makes the team is if he comes back before the preseason is over and blows the doors off.
  • Brian McCann needs to strengthen his wrist or something. The catch that Malcolm Floyd made (and got injured on) hit McCann in the hand, knocked his hand backward where the ball then went right into Floyd's hand and he made the catch. That ball *should* have been deflected....except McCann's wrist is too weak. Embarrassing!
  • Barry Church made a great TD saving play and I'm a fan of his. Although, I'm still not sold that he can be an every day safety in coverage.
  • AOA made a decent return on the punt, but didn't look natural doing it.
  • Rob Ryan again took blame for a complete defensive breakdown and again blamed it on a calling a play he said they never practice. While this might be true, I must say I'm not completely sold that Rob Ryan will make this a great (say top 7) defense. (better? Probably)

Sorry.. but i rewatched that play 3 times and Olshansky got turned right inside and out of the play. He didn't hold his own.

You are right Igor did not get beat on the play Collinsworth mentioned but he did get blown off the ball a few other times before that play. One time I recall he got blown off the ball and was on his back as the play moved on top of him. No excuse for the bad call but I can understand why it happened.

This is interesting. I think he said that after the last game too. Why do you suppose he is doing that? Trying to put pressure on his players, perhaps? To see if they can make adjustments, themselves, on the field?

Lastnight showed the gap between good/weak franchise management.

Chargers have alot more talant, depth and quality than Dallas. It shows up big time, it's like Dallas is in a different catagory from teams such as San Diego, New England and Indy, whom appear far more established because they have a solid foundation of football under them.

Dallas has a solid foundation of wet poop to slide around on. It's irresponsible to see the contrast between Romo and Rivers and what they have been given to work with on the OLine.

He didn't get pushed back. THAT is what Chris Collinsworth said. He held his ground, it was the NT that got pushed back. Defensive lineman are supposed to plug up the line of scrimmage. So, while it would have been nice for him to make the tackle, he did stay on the line of scrimmage like he was supposed too. (that you can go watch again and again)

Collinsworth called the wrong name and the many fans chided Olshansky for it.

One of the plays on the Chargers first drive, Olshansky gets driven backwards to the second level. He gets shoved so hard that he leaves his feet and lands on his butt. This happens out in open space, plain as day for all to see.

Ouch...

Olshansky has been pushed around a lot lately. He IMO has been the worst of the experienced defensive lineman. When I noted that play it was more about the fan reaction rather than Olshansky.

I agree with some of that. But I must add that turnovers and missing key players didn't help any either. They are starters for a reason. The reason being they are generally better than the players behind them.

Igor was really slow off the ball too. The other DL would be into their first pass rush move as he just engaged his blocker on passing downs.

I think he was struggling and has given up now.

I think McGee has looked really good for backup standards and I think he's ready for the job.

I also think that receivers he is playing with are kind of all over the place so I really don't know who to blame when something goes wrong but either way he gets credit for producing with those guys.

Sorry for qouting myself, was past the 15 min. edit, anyhow

The play I described above is on the Chargers third drive of the 1st quarter at the 2:30 mark. Balls on our 48 yardline and it's 2nd and 11.

Maybe bbgun can throw up a video of it.

I did not get to see the first half.

But #47 Alex Allbright looked good in spots in the 4th quarter.

I think they meant to have Bailey not kick it into the endzone. Last week DeCamillas got angry at Bailey because he told him to kick the ball so he could see his coverage units and Bailey instead kicked every one into the endzone for touchbacks. With that being the case, I'm sure the Coach made sure Bailey kicked it shorter last night.

I thought that might have been a possibility considering only one of the three even made it to the end zone. It would be scary to think that is the deepest he could kick the ball considering it's from the thirty yard line. :laugh2:

What I noticed last night was very little play from Spears, Ratliffe, Butler, Hatcher, Coleman, and a few others. I think that last nights game was an audition for some of these players to see what they can do.

We know that Olshansky is not longer running with the first team, but he got lots of playing time. Brent and Lissemore got a lot of playing time. I'm not sure if Brandon Williams played since he is pretty much invisible when he does play.

The DL is not that much of a concern for me, its the CB. Ball is not an NFL football player, and if we keep him he is nothing more than a progress stopper over Thomas and McCann.

It would scary.

I'm pretty sure they instructed him to kick it short though. Otherwise you completely loose the opportunity to give the cover team reps. It'd be a waste.

I saw that as well...the guy is putrid.

  • He said if next week was a regular season game, he could play... hopefully, he's not just blowin' smoke...

I think that's what was happening, based on his kickoff in the first game... I don't think that he can kick it anywhere near as deep or far as Der Buehler, but I think he can put in the endzone pretty consistently...

[*]McGee is looking better this year, but he is still makes a few pretty bad decisions. That said; if he matures again the same amount he did over the last year, he might be ready for a promotion to primary backup next year.

I sure hope so... other than being a little too quick to get out of the pocket, I also like his progress...

Yeah, I'm starting to get a little concerned about our OT depth... Young has been a real disappointment...

    I enjoyed your analysis, nyc...
