Thoughts on Will McClay being the GM once Jerry steps down

I would want an outside GM whose first task was cleaning house.

I wouldn't want anybody that was previously willing to work for Jerry Jones unless he had walked out after one week in total disgust.

I don't want a single strand of the diseased culture that has strangled this franchise for the past three decades.

I fully expect Stephen to takeover the gm role after Jerry and for him to be worse.
I don’t know about that. 12 hours ago I would have completely agreed with you. Take this for what it’s worth but I watched Mike Fisher at 6:pm yesterday and he reported that there is a plan in place for Jerry’s “transition”. So according to Fisher once Jerry passes the roles have already been established and a document has been sent to the league of:
Stephen- co owner, responsible for day to day operations/marketing
Charlotte: co owner, responsible for league issues
Jerry Jr.: has a role but not reported
McClay: GM of the team

Fisher went on to say that the plan has already been implemented in small increments. Example he gave is Charlotte and Stephen’s titles have been switched to “co-owner”.

So this info is coming from Fisher’s show that aired 4/17/25 at 6:00 pm. Now I know Fiah can be a hack and a Jerry Jones/Cowboys apologist but take it for what it’s worth.

I personally would love this if there was clearly defined roles of Stephen handles one thing, Charlotte another, Jerry Jr something else and the football decisions are handled by McClay. I would love that McClay could handle any and all football decisions without interference. That’s what Fisher alluded will happen as the “the transition plan”.

How would you feel about Mcclay being our GM, do you think it's a no brainer, he's earned it, we saw this coming, or you hate this and want someone else to fulfill the role??? Please give your thoughts
I think it’s a natural fit.

He’s likely doing much of the job already.

I don’t see Stephen keeping the same role like Jerry.

When Jerry does leave this earth does ownership pass to whoever Jerry picks and does the NFL have to approve the transfer? Personally I hope it’s Charlotte Jones.

IDK, does McClay want topnotch Dts and Jerry won't let him acquire them? That question has to be answered before I can answer other questions.
Well unfortunately the last couple of McClay’s ( maybe JJ’s) higher drafted DTs haven’t been good in Mazi and Trysten Hill.

Doubt he can overcome the Stevie factor.
Maybe Stevie let's football people take over ,that's what needs to happen in Dallas. I think Will McClay can do the job. Let Will be the GM and run the football operations and watch this team compete for Super Bowls.

It’s insane that a GM has already been handed a position at an indefinite time in the future.

I guess that’s his part of his compensation for doing the Milli Vanilli thing now and not leaving.

No wonder no one is motivated to win, and it certainly trickles down to the field. Everyone is “comfortable” and there’s no real motivation to win, and part of why the Giants are going to finish ahead of Dallas this season. Yeah I said it.

No other pro sports team is run this way, but Jerry’s wants his friends and family situation, wants to be a celebrity, and as far as fans who want a winning football team….too bad if you don’t like it. He is getting closer to full Col. Jessup and will get there one day. I can’t wait.

Let’s see what the results of the next few seasons do for their plan of never being bad enough to not be able to sell it.

Nope, let's see what develops in the next 2 weeks.
Yup. As soon as we go WR, CB, RB(or TE) w/ our 1st 3 picks, you'll know it's a train wreck. If by some odd chance we take DTs early and often, then you'll know Jerry suddenly got serious about being a super bowl contender. We will not be a super bowl contender if we don't. No more complicated than that.

If Gnats find a Qb, that is highly possible.

McClay is WAY overrated by Cowboys fans and media
Every good pick is ascribed to him and every bad one is blamed on Jerry or Quinn or another coach
There is a reason he never moved to a real GM job. He is a good reflection of what is wrong with the franchise: sit around and be held responsible for nothing
