Thoughts/Opinions about draft class!

Great draft analysis. All I want to see in year 1 is a middle of the pack defense. That high school defense last year was the worst I have ever seen as a Cowboy fan. That defense had me speechless and laughing more times then I ever want to see again.

I’ve been preaching the 34 since Micah became a pass rusher against the Chargers. I prefer this style because everyone is big and intimidating in the 34 generally. Think about the 34 teams, Pittsburgh, Balty, etc. Physical.

I think EZE and Lawrence will find it easier rushing the passer with protection of the big dudes inside as well at those weights than the 43.

Shelton I hate, and I mean hate when we draft lineman offense or defense and I need to hear "he needs to get stronger" give me the guy who is physically there already every time over the finesse guy.
That is why he was pick 112 and not a 1st rounder. Watch out for him in 2027!

They needed more depth at those areas, tackle, corner and dl. They all should be key reserves year 1 who can play in a pinch if needed
I completely understand why they did but I'm telling you BPA especially over there when there's a lot of talent left but when you said those areas there are other receivers that are better at least on paper in sores you know draft rankings and and but not the Oklahoma receive her there but there were more I realize the Oklahoma receiver kind of looks at Turpin so maybe didn't want to go done it and we have had a 60 receiver they move like that but still I think that sometimes '5 200 pound receiver they move like that but still I think that Sometimes just need to go BPA at the position of need and depth areas..

I realize what they did and why I did it Their scores and how they ran these guys are all different than the big board or the draft rankings Some of it was clear cut there was Battalion on the board knocked him from a+ day 1 to B- You know it was hard not come down after Downs and I understand that it lower it but I'm sorry they had luminess I felt like I on names instead of BPA..

It all shake itself out in training camp preseason because if it's going to be like I like Holden never even got one call up from the P.squad.. I mean the guy never even got chance but why even bothering him in?

I hope set of coaches and this team uses their players better because they waste players and I realized the injuries last year kept the Mafah off on IR because they didn't want to waste under their call ups..

I think only Downs will start out of all the picks but I believe Lawrence, Barnham, Moore, and Overton will get a shot at the defensive rotation.
They agree a bar ham physical enough in the shortage we have a line back right now as the roster sits that may change, He's actually physical enough and likes that football downhill off ball linebacker I know D winners is a little bit of that but you can get both the field at the same time if you ski right you can put more beer better players there at the same time instead of just running your typical bass defense.. You know with packages.. Yes Lawrence won't be a starter right away because that 'd be EZE will take a big step this year, and they're probably bringing another guy.. Maybe clowney gets a shot, who knows..

Overshot can be used a lot on the outside in a pass brush mode very similar to Parsons so if you in a pass rush NASCAR package.. You can get a guy like Barham and Lawrence on the field..

He was far better in zimmer’s scheme. Marist has a knack for creating fumbles, which is his best attribute
Liafu, dont count him out and call him what you want, but I really think the coaches can work with him, not rush doesn't have feel any pressure, He can learn a lot from some veterans , I think he's got a more then we saw it last year but probably closer to what he had his year with Zimmer..

He realizes his job on the line and now he's pushed on the depth dart I think we'll see a better version of him.. Baby was gotta have to add to a list of Next year's Who did you think was gonna turn the corner and didn't and he gets coughed at now I think people should stop thinking he can't offer this him anything New staff Who are more hands off teachers might whip in the shape..

I haven’t written him off, but the majority of the fan base has. Just a matter of putting him into the best place to succeed

Good stuff.

Bar isn’t very fast. 4.64 40 time.

His combine score…not good.

Played some LB before they moved him to DE in college.

He’s too slow.

He was probably drafted out of round, just like Lawrence.

He needs work.

Dee will take his job this season.
Is 4.64 really that slow for 6' 3.5" and 240lbs?? The guy looks like he moves well on tape.

-Downs NCB-perfect fit for CP's nickel role. This position isn't used like a traditional slot corner, more of a hybrid role. Parker wants to play two safeties back, along with disguising their intentions for a particular play. Since they will be in a light box, this player has to be a strong run defender, which Downs certainly is.

-Lawrence Edge-in my opinion, a similar prospect to EZ from last year's draft. EZ was the more productive prospect, where Lawrence has more the physical traits you look for at the position. Has good first step quickness, but needs refinement with his technique and must learn how to play the run better to become a three down player. Expectations should be low in his rookie season in hopes he can become an impact starter early in his career.

-Barham LB/Edge-he is the poor man's version of OSU's Arvil Reese. Was an off the ball linebacker until last season where he played Edge. They will start him as an off the ball linebacker. He is more of a tweener and less polished compared to Reese. Very physical and has a tremendous first step quickness. His burst shows up on tape.

-Shelton Tackle-has a ton of starting experience within a power conference. Can play either side and even kick inside as a Guard. He needs some technique development and add more strength to his frame. Could become the team's swing tackle right away.

-Moore CB-many media scouts had him rated as a high 3rd rd prospect. Has all the physical traits the team seeks at the position. Good balanced corner, where his biggest knock is his durability. Has missed a ton of games, however he did play in 11 games last season.

-Overton DE-Cowboys are going to a 3 man line and need that 5/4i technique, which they see Overton as. His main job will be occupying multiple blockers and being stout against the run. He will be used more as a DT due to limited pass rush abilities.

-Winters LB (Trade from 49ers)-he is known to be very good in coverage and solid against the run. More of a sideline to sideline type of backer who high end speed. Coming off a strong season where he started 17 games for the 49ers.

-Smith WR-he a strech the field type of receiver that struggles with drops, will need to earn a roster spot.

Overall

Really think the Cowboys did a great job of changing their defensive makeup. Defense has several players who can play multiple roles, this was done by design as CP's scheme is big on post snap disguise. The defense rebuild isn't complete and remains a work in progress. What they have accomplished is added a new staff that hopes to do a better job with development and improve the overall talent.
Great write up. I do however disagree that Lawrence isn't as "polished" as Reese. Reese only had 6.5 sacks last year in Columbus. He also had the benefit of playing alongside Styles and Downs. I think Malachi's resume is pretty solid for a 1 man gang

Think Reese is more ready as an off the ball linebacker the. Lawrence is as an edge at this time

- i do wonder if there are/will be any very near future moves with the off ball LBs, as we are still very dangerous thin. .

-Overshown has major durability issues, Shemar James hasn't proven reilable, much less needle maker...there were already questions about his intincts pre-draft.

- It's right now about Winters, Overshown and James as the off ball LBs, imo. Really think it has to be more of a needle mover in this new Defense .. is Jordayn Brooks trade (via Miami) still in the picture at some point ?

- I'd very much welcome a cometiting OT, not just a mere backup (vs Nate Thomas) .. but one that can seriously challenge Steele for eventual starting spot.
