Thoughts/Opinions about draft class!

Team passed on a lot of BPA for Lawrence and Bar.

Worth it?
That's debatable, one of our new Defensive Coaches coached Lawrence in college so I think they have a good idea of who they picked. Barham has the physical traits to be a nice inside LB in CP's new scheme.

Really believe he competes with Thomas to become the swing tackle this yr. With some development, yes he can compete to become a starter down the line. Better pass protector then a run defender, but with some development can be a quality player at a premium position.
I know you are from Giant country so are they actually going to play Reese as an off ball linebacker?

Moved to philly suburbs from NYC 2 years ago. Do still have hometown friends who are Giant fans. They say he is going to be used off the ball as a rover type of linebacker where he will do it all. He was too good to pass up, even thought they all loved Downs.

Down - I think we all like this pick
Lawrence - I am cautious about this pick but hopes he develops into a good Edge rusher
Barham - I am really interested in seeing him develop into a LB. If this happens this draft is a home run.
Moore-Overton-Smith - developmental guys with possible good ceilings.
Really like the TE from Baylor as a UDFA
I disagree I saying all those 4th rd picks are developmental guys. Overton has a chance to start day 1 next to Clark on the line. Moore is very talented, his biggest issue is his health, at worst he plays in the sub packages. Really do believe Smith can unseat Thomas as the swing tackle.

You know I am not sure about Reese. You have to take him at 5 no doubt but he is not Parsons. I really didn’t see anything from Reese to make me go wow!!! Early in the season he started off strong but so did the rest of the Buckeyes defense. I hear the criticism about the Miami game concerning Styles but Miami was blowing Reese and McDonald off the ball as well. I don’t know man, playing him at SAM was not smart in my opinion. Took away his traits. Indiana game Reese struggled as well. The Giants better have a plan.

-Downs NCB-perfect fit for CP's nickel role. This position isn't used like a traditional slot corner, more of a hybrid role. Parker wants to play two safeties back, along with disguising their intentions for a particular play. Since they will be in a light box, this player has to be a strong run defender, which Downs certainly is.

-Lawrence Edge-in my opinion, a similar prospect to EZ from last year's draft. EZ was the more productive prospect, where Lawrence has more the physical traits you look for at the position. Has good first step quickness, but needs refinement with his technique and must learn how to play the run better to become a three down player. Expectations should be low in his rookie season in hopes he can become an impact starter early in his career.

-Barham LB/Edge-he is the poor man's version of OSU's Arvil Reese. Was an off the ball linebacker until last season where he played Edge. They will start him as an off the ball linebacker. He is more of a tweener and less polished compared to Reese. Very physical and has a tremendous first step quickness. His burst shows up on tape.

-Shelton Tackle-has a ton of starting experience within a power conference. Can play either side and even kick inside as a Guard. He needs some technique development and add more strength to his frame. Could become the team's swing tackle right away.

-Moore CB-many media scouts had him rated as a high 3rd rd prospect. Has all the physical traits the team seeks at the position. Good balanced corner, where his biggest knock is his durability. Has missed a ton of games, however he did play in 11 games last season.

-Overton DE-Cowboys are going to a 3 man line and need that 5/4i technique, which they see Overton as. His main job will be occupying multiple blockers and being stout against the run. He will be used more as a DT due to limited pass rush abilities.

-Winters LB (Trade from 49ers)-he is known to be very good in coverage and solid against the run. More of a sideline to sideline type of backer who high end speed. Coming off a strong season where he started 17 games for the 49ers.

-Smith WR-he a strech the field type of receiver that struggles with drops, will need to earn a roster spot.

Overall

Really think the Cowboys did a great job of changing their defensive makeup. Defense has several players who can play multiple roles, this was done by design as CP's scheme is big on post snap disguise. The defense rebuild isn't complete and remains a work in progress. What they have accomplished is added a new staff that hopes to do a better job with development and improve the overall talent.
My general thoughts are to optimistically wait for the production.

He is the better version of that Georgia tweener that Atlanta drafted last year

I honestly believe that this team has some youngsters that will take time to develop as they might best be suited to raise this team's level appreciably. It'll take time for the culture to raise itself up to the level that allows them to contend for serious post-season glory. Real hope has taken forever coming along!

I believe Caleb Downs should be someone to help a defensive turnaround to happen. Paired with DC, Christian Parker, they may have just what it takes to turn this defense into a much-improved unit, given due time. It won't happen overnight but between CP and Downs, things should improve considerably.

Like Darren Woodson said, this team has sorely needed the leadership of a pair of guys like it now has. This defense now has needed a defensive quarterback, like Downs and a DC like Parker. to guide it to new and better things. I'm really excited about this situation, just as we all should be. Let's hope Jerry and Stephen have found new reasons to make the most of their FO leadership efforts. It's a new day!

Yup. Only pick I didn't like was the gargantuan corner, because he is injury prone.
Agree. On the positive side 2025 was his healthiest season missing only one game. When he is healthy he looks pretty good.
