My thoughts are this team is not as good as we saw last week nor are they as bad as this week. This makes them the average to below average team we all thought at TC. An 8 or 9 win team which means one and done again should they make the playoffs in this putrid division.

This is why I was against giving these guys big contract extensions, need a lot of players to make a deep run. MM is not the answer either.

Excellent analysis.

You get these type of games early on in the season, where many players didn't play in any preseason games. It wasn't just the Cowboys today; 49ers, Lions, Rams, Ravens all had bad losses this weekend. There is a lot to fix, but 1 loss in September has no barring on the season's outcome.

Defense

-This looked like the same defense that got blown out in their playoff loss to the Packers. Is it a coincidence that the Packers run a similar scheme as the Saints? Kubiak comes for the same coaching tree. A lot of motion, misdirection and outside, zone scheme. This has been the scheme that has given the Cowboys fits for the last 5 seasons. Mike Zimmer has had a good record going against this scheme in his history, so there is hope that this can be fixed.
-Similar things I saw from previous years, defensive ends played too aggressive giving up the edge and our linebackers could shed any blocks. When you see Diggs/Carson needing to make a tackle, the defense is in trouble. Lack of run defense reared it's ugly head once again. I have stated in the past the outside runs are the biggest issue for this run defense, far more then up the middle.
-Reason why they couldn't get off the field all day was that they couldn't get the Raiders in many 3rd and longs, very easy conversions if they even made it to third down.
-No defense will be successful giving up many chunk plays like what happened today.

Offense

-Going into this game, I expected to see a similar tough defense like what we faced against the Browns the prior week. It is very tough to consistently run against this front seven. Got to pass to open up the run against this defense.
-Although it didn't have much success, I liked how they tried multiple backs to see if they can find a hot hand.
-It is clearly evident that this team lacks playmakers outside of Lamb, Ferguson. Very easy to defend if all they had to do is take out Lamb. Tolbert showed flashes, Brooks in essence ended the game with his stumble that led to an int before half. Don't know what to make out of Cooks, but this team needs another true, top receiver, which probably won't be addressed until next offseason.
-Guyton had another up and down game, which is expected to happen this year.
-I know many want to blame Dak and the offense for the loss, but no team is going to win when your defense gives up 5 straight TD's.

It only gets tougher next week when an 0-2 Ravens team comes to town. They need to fix their run defense right away or we can expect even worse results.
mr Cowboyny---thank you for your logical reasoning while encapsulating the many variables in early part of every season....we dont have playmakers....not trying to get a good RB

is really hurting us too.....and lopsided scores often occur first 4 games of season the way preseason is structured....what happened to this killer defense that shut down Browns????

but i think i will at this point agree with Dak that we will learn from this game and be better for it...i Hope Zimmer goes into warp drive of accountability....we are better than score of

this game...but this game exposed many areas of our weaknesses....when will Jerry and Stephen realize off season free agency is a big part of reloading team...not just the draft

especially when we pick in the 20's...how do Sheagles find a way to get top shelf players in free agency every year????.....i know Hurts is on rookie contract but even before then

My thoughts:

Inexplicable blowouts happen almost every year to almost every team at some point in the season.

To anyone who is critical of the offense: If you’ve ever played football, which is unique because different squads play offense and defense, you know that the defense being totally inept eventually wears on the offense’s psyche. The offense can no longer execute the game plan that was installed during the week and the barrage of opponent scoring becomes very frustrating. While they’re supposed to be professionals, the players are still human.

To anyone critical of the defense: Go ahead and rip them to shreds. Either the players or the coaches (or both) deserve it. That was terrible today.
I was in this mindset for about two decades, THERE WIL BE NO CHANGE WHEN THE OWNER HAS SOLE CONTROL OF THE ROSTER!!!

Not going to sugar coat it, EGO and HUBRIS will ALWAYS come before wins, the same story from 1995-2059+

This game showed us exactly what will happen when they make the playoffs. There's very little actual intestinal fortitude and fight in this team. Punch them in the mouth and they wilt every single time.
The days of getting punched in the mouth and getting off the mat and answering the bell are long gone. Used to happen around these parts, no really, they used to. This team doesn't do well after things go south as they never come back for the win. Playing ahead they seem to be able to stem the tide, from behind forget about it. No Roger "Captain Comeback" Staubach magic exist in Dallas anymore.

Agreed…but I think that MM has to run this type of offense given Dak’s limitations and lack of offensive playmakers other than CD. Jerry did MM no favors by not going out and getting a legitimate RB and a #2 WR.

I don't care how they lost, he counts the same in the record book.
It matters for the psychology of this team. The doubt is now in their heads just like last year after the AZ game. This team may make the playoffs, but they aren't going to win. They may quit the weak leading up to it like last year with GB.

After watching this game I realized how much those major coaching and quarterbacking issues still remain with this team.
Those issues go beyond trying to minimize this humiliating loss into "its only one game, there's a whole season left."

Because the hopium based crowd will still believe in the one game at a time mindset even after this Saints game. But ultimately they will be disappointed by this team's final outcome.
The not so optimistic fanbase already sees the writing on the wall and doesn't need 15 more games to know.

After 2 games and this one especially, they're still the same old Cowboys. And they ain't changing.

And a minimum of 5 more years of the same.
Sad times.
Any time I hear a fan say "Oh it's only 1 loss" I tell them "Hey! This isn't baseball, EVERY game is important".
How many times at the end of the season do we end up saying "If only we hadn't lost that game to...........

Luckily for us it doesn't matter. We'll end up losing in the first round regardless of our record.

I often agree with your assessment but not this time
This was not just another early season loss, this exposed our weaknesses including soft culture, entitled players, lack of intensity and discipline, bad coaching, players playing out of position (Micah)
I expect a better showing next week but same result
How do you expose something that's been rampant for the last twenty eight years?

Good points on the offense but the Cowboys need a playmaker at running back as well. Once we get behind defenses play a kind of prevent defense because they have no respect for our weapons other then Lamb. The Cowboys are playing all these backs because no one has any juice. It’s scary to me to think Zeke is our best running back but he is. The receivers scare no one outside CeeDee and to be honest Ferguson is good but he is not special.. Defenses make Dak beat them. As good as Dak is, he does not have a special arm and can get caught by dropping a safety or linebacker in coverage.

Defensively we have the worst defensive tackle room in the NFL and it’s not just Mazi. Teams are running off tackle because we have small defensive ends and the linebackers could not get off of blocks. That is not going to change. We have to get ahead of teams or teams will hammer us with a power run game. The secondary is dependent on the pass rush. The corners/safeties don’t have the speed to cover for long stretches.

this team mirrors its 60 million dollar QB. all talk and no results. the guy is an underachieving overachiever. soft and folds like a cheap tent in big games and against good team. he thrives on looking good against bad teams and stat padding in the second half in the second half of a blowout and he couldnt even do that today lol. been saying this since day one. if you still believe in this guy you are delusional. wake up from the matrix.
Yea, all the QB's fault. Laughable. This team mirrors the organization that Jerry runs and McCarthy coaches. Not the QB.
