While I hope that Whitehead ultimately ends up with job, I do not want to see him back there week 1. Just don't trust him to hold onto the ball. Ideally, Beasley or Wilcox will be the primary PR for the first few weeks, with Dez doing it situationally, ie, opponents punting from their own end zone. Around game 5 where we activate Hardy and are likely to release a guy like McCray, I'd then like to see Whitehead start getting returns situationally so he can take over full time.

Id give Whitehead a shot week 1. His first mistake he's done though

I like the idea of a Beasley'esque clone earning a spot via special teams. It lets him develop his slot receiver skills in the event Beasley gets injured, or just packages with both of them (New England'esque) that Linihan could put together.....

Whatever happens I just hope it doesn't end up being Beasley back there. I just think he'll be too important for the offense to risk having his small frame getting banged up back there.

I'd rather us fill that role with a WR, DB, or RB that's active on game day but further down the depth chart.

Well said, stay thirsty my friend !!!

Three possible Kick/Punt Returners for the Dallas Cowboys
By Kelsie VanderWijst

When Dwayne Harris left the Dallas Cowboys, he left multiple positions behind that are now up for grabs. Last Thursday, the Dallas Cowboys held interviews for the position(s). Head Coach Jason Garrett was clear though the position competition is still wide open. “We look for a guy who can step in,” Garrett said (dallascowboys.com).

Who should fill his vacancy for kickoff and punt returns this season? Someone who has: good hands, is fast, has the ability to gain extra yards, has good decision making (fair catch, return, etc…) and ability to find running lane, etc…

Here is three possible players who can take on these roles for the Dallas Cowboys:

Cole Beasley

+ Fielded 10 punts in career

+ Has good hands

+ Quickness

+ Ability to get extra yards (2014 yards after catch was 250/ 6.8 yards/reception after the catch)

+ Willingness to take on the job. All for any extra opportunity to get the ball in his hands (dallascowboys.com)

Experience

High risk special teams position

Found new role on offense

Overwork him every Sunday could lead to injury...
