Three possible trades for a RB

I thought Williams played very well. I think he is going to surprise us all. He moved the ball effectively and always seems to fall for positive yards, or move the pile. I'm not sure we need to trade for an RB. We haven't even seen Blue yet.
3.6 YPC isn't impressive. Rico Dowdle had 4.6.

If Zeke from last year was playing instead of Williams he would have also scored those 2 td's. I also wouldn't call 3.6 per carry anything to be overly excited about
It’s easy to be a stat nerd and try to dork this conversation up.

Here is his actual touches. Feel free to show me where he shoudlve done better.

If the Cowboys want to contend for a playoff spot in 2025, we aren’t going to get there with Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders at RB. Jaydon Blue is a complimentary player who needs to be paired with a back who can carry more of the load.

So how about a trade that could immediately improve our RB room without breaking the bank?

Here are three RBs who could possibly be obtained through a trade that I believe would immediately make us better.
  • Ray Davis, 25, backup RB in Buffalo. A 2024 4th round pick. Underrated coming out of Univ of Kentucky. Was an all SEC RB IN 2023. Powerful, good hands as a receiver. Rushed for 442 yards last year backing up James Cook. Would be an excellent pairing with a speed back. Bills could use some pass rushing help. Dante Fowler for Ray Davis?

  • Justice Hill, 27, backup RB in Baltimore. Has avg 4.6 yards per carry in his career with ravens. An All Big 12 RB out of OK State. Good speed, power when needed. Been stuck behind Derrick Henry but would probably start for most teams. Ravens could really use help at WR depth. How about Jalen Tolbert for Justice Hill?

  • Tahj Brooks, 23, backup RB in Cincinnati. A 6th round pick of the Bengals last spring. A poor man’s Laveon Bell. Combines power with elusiveness. All Big 12 RB two straight years. Best pass blocking back in last year’s draft. Excellent special teams player too. A solid young back that could be paired with Blue. Could be had for a late round pick.
I know these are long shots that probably won’t happen. But if the Cowboys are serious about a playoff run this year, the current RB room won’t be enough. The moves I am proposing make us better without sacrificing big draft capital for the future.
Defense seems more like the problem.

Thanks. Any idea on the severity of the injury?
They haven't said much, so not sure how legit it is and how much was just a way to stash him. Hopefully it wasn't much so he can come back ASAP.

Dang you for timestamping me, Catch.

The time to get a RB was in teh draft. The draft class was full of them if they weren't happy with Blue.

The same thing with DT. I know it take a couple of years for DTs to mature but this class was full of good ones.

They should have drafted Chase Brown rather than Eric Scott and Deuce Vaughn.

I still don’t understand why Revell was considered more important than a RB in round 3. I know he is a first round talent but with a bad knee. He wasn’t going to be ready to play to start the season anyway.

We already had traded for Kaiir Elam, and had Bland and Diggs. I like Revell but having a good RB and better DT room in the spring would have made this team better, and a more likely closer to what they want to become.

As it stands right now, we are still in need of both RB and DT. Kenny Clark certainly helps at run stopping but he may not really be a long term answer at 30 and a lot of miles on his tires. This past draft was full of impact DTs and RBs and we got neither.

Good Take Bob,

I'd trade for anyone of those 3, They all could make a big difference. Davis and Brooks would be my targets since they are younger, I do like that Davis played in the SEC.

Because they few him as Diggs replacement next season.

Based on last Sunday, the Cowboys look like they missed the boat on giving a day 3 pick to the Jets for Hall.
Based on last Sunday? What did the Cowboys do on Sunday to give you that opinion, considering they played on Thursday?

A 31-year-old journeyman for the Bills' primary backup who they just drafted last year and have several years of team control over? Zero chance of that or anything close to it happening.
A complete bust for Justice Hill, a starter-quality running back? Zero chance of that or anything close to it happening.
And Tahj Brooks. The Bengals drafted him in the 6th last year and they surely see everything you see, which is why he's their primary backup (Perine is strictly the third-down receiving guy). Why on earth would they trade a young guy they're really happy with for a "late round pick" when late-round picks so rarely turn into pieces as valuable as Tahj Brooks? Zero chance of that or anything close to it happening.

Every one of these guys is cheap, valued by their team, and under multiple years of team control (well, Hill's extension runs through next season). They are not giving them up for the kind of table scraps you are proposing.

I get that but still a weird move in my view. They can’t seem to make up their mind about when they are “going for it” and when they are rebuilding. Now it’s obvious this is a rebuilding year.

But when they had the chance to go for it from 21-23, they refused to make a big FA move that addressed the defensive weakness of stopping the run. Yes they traded for CB Stephon Gilmore, but it wasn’t enough.

lol lol oooooooooh easy big fella!!! lol gotcha!!

(just was thinking) Now I see why you love BLue, because your name is Blue blood!!!!!!!!!!!!! Uhh and they say I'm going to be a mod one day lol jk
Yes and no it's because I'm a Longhorn fan and I've watched him and I know what he can do we watched him in practice one little pre season couple of snaps I can envision what he can do here every bit of what Tony Pollard can do he can do it may be better as far as just being faster..

But yes I'm a little biased because I'm a Longhorn fan so but I also know this offense needs more juice from the backfield..
