Thumbs up:
Tony Romo: looked like the Romo we last saw at Washington. Threw strikes tonight, moved well in the pocket. Only thing missing was a pass to Witten.
Dez Bryant: that's all I need to say
Starting OL: a couple of penalties. Otherwise Romo had time and Murray ran well. The screen to Murray was beautiful. Could be deadly this season.
Rolondo McClain: forced a fumble, deflected a pass. I'm encouraged.
JJ Wilcox: huge hit on Rice that took him out of the game. Also had a hit on Steve Smith that caused an inc.
Zach Minter: great effort. I hope this is a sign of things to come. Earned more PT.

Preseason games are always an exercise in watching trees and not the forest, but there was one big takeaway on this. With our starting O Line, when they had the ball they drove straight down the field and scored on a good defense. And when the coaches rotated in the second string skill position players, they did it again. Our O line is the story of upcoming season.

Escobar and Hanna are going to be weapons this year – and we know Witten will.

CB Mitchell gave up yards but I would start him at the slot CB while Scandrick is out. He is going to be a player. I think our play at Safety this year will be just fine. Not great, but not a problem either. BW Webb will make the team to the surprise of many, but be cut 30 seconds after the suspension of Scandrick is over.

With the LBs, McClain’s physical skills are exactly what you have read and IMO he will take the Mike with Durant moving to the Will. It could be sooner rather than later. Also the rookies Hitchens and Will Smith are guys with a nose for the ball that will help on ST this year.

I liked Coleman better than Bishop in this game, and I think Dartwan Bush makes the team.

Thumbs down:
Brandon Weeden: looked like his old self. Held the ball way too long.
Jeremy Parnell: not looking like an option as a backup LT
Special Teams: gave up big returns all night. Even Bailey nearly missed a PAT.
BW Webb: seems to run around a lot of tackles

My god, that O Line. I could get 100 yard games behind that thing. (Better give me plenty of pads. Including in my pants.) If we can run the clock like that, and get just a few defensive stops a game even, we could easily win the NFC Least.

Sorry for the sloppy post. Can't type on this iPad.

THUMBS DOWN:

1. Jason Garrett: sloppy mistakes all over the team, that's on him.
2. Webb: How can this guy stick around this long when we cut Josh Thomas ASAP a few years ago. Thomas was much more physical and competent.
3. 2nd team Oline: Parnell and Weems are the definition of scrubs. Interior oline wasn't much better.

I really like Wetzel. He's looked much better than Parnell. Needs to get snaps at LT.

Plus
  • Romo looked great
  • Dez looked great
  • TEs looked great
  • OL looked great
Minus
  • It's only preseason, however, I haven't seen any signs yet that Wilcox has take a step forward. In fact, I thought both Church and Wilcox where unimpressive in this game

I thought Chris Jones was awful too.

Your question won't be answered, or you will get some sort of sarcastic answer. The pessimists always think they are getting a bad rap because they are "real", but the issue is they NEVER have a positive thing to say. It is somewhat entertaining though, even though it is pretty predictable.

POSITIVES:

Romo, Dez, Boyd, Minter, Bailey.

NEGATIVES:

Chris Jones - I think it is time to move on
Anthony Hitchens- Tackled like a girl, and seemed a step too slow
Jeff Heath- I know he played well on special teams, on defense he NEVER finishes a tackle. For a safety, that's a joke. It doesn't matter if he has a "nose" for the ball if it is always getting busted up.
Second team Offensive Line was abysmal

Wilcox knocked Rice out of the game with an impressive open field hit and also separated the ball from Steve Smith for an incomplete I thought he was good played nasty

Thumbs up and down same play. Martin showed the speed and agility to get way downfield and block, then whiffed on the block.

1st teamers thumbs up.
Minter thumbs up
Bailey! Dudes a robot.
And I like the fight in Mitchell. Thumbs up.

Thumbs down
2nd team oline
Thumbs down to Holloman injury.
Thumbs down to Randel or Randal? Either way dude is not a return guy.

Thumbs up:
romo, Dez, Oline. got some pressure on D. Good play in the back field. McLaine looked good, a little gassed, but getting there. Thought the refs called a good game.

weeden to Escobar looks legit. Wonder on Romo has that chemistry with him.

Thumbs down:

Special teams. 2nd team D. garret clapping after the fumble.
