TIDBIT: Henry, 3 picks at Safety during OTA on Thursday

If it's against Bartel again, we may need to re-think his position here in Dallas.
True, but there's two sides to that coin. Henry is a starter with the first team. Pac is a talented guy as well. Bartel is used to competing against the bottom of the depth charts, not near the top.

This should either make him a better QB or pretty much tell the team he's reached his ceiling.

I know this though, with us having a couple new corners on the team, and Henry tearing it up at safety, Hamlin could actually be in trouble (because of his Money situation), I pray not, but who knows what goes through the minds of the Front Office.
That's a good point. I think the team is doing whatever it can to prepare the guys that's there just in case Hamlin is only here for another year.

Can't pay everybody big money...and if Watkins or Brown show some improvement, then paying Hamlin might not be as good a business move.

That said, the Cowboys and Hamlin's people are still talking, so that's a good thing. Hamlin wants the big contract and I think there's some sensitivity to making him the highest paid safety on the team. But then if Roy plays lights out the next two years, he'll get another big contract... in Dallas or somewhere. This might be Hamlin's last big contract.

Matt Mosely reported it on on espn radio Thurday, but who would of knew with all this Pacman talk.

How many picks did Roy get?

Todd had a great blog item about Anthony Henry playing in the Dime packages and moving to safety.

We assume Pacman Jones will start along with Terence Newman at corner this season. Right?

If not, having Henry starting at corner isn't a bad thing. The man led the NFL in picks last season before he got hurt. And when the season was over he was tied with Newman for passes defended with 15 and led the team in interceptions with six.

Moving Henry to free safety, something that he's open too, is a good thing. Henry played safety in college and his strong coverage skills don't make him a liability there. The question today is how does Roy Williams take it?

Knowing Roy, he'll be upset, but support Henry's move to safety. (Ken Hamlin will move to strong safety).

Roy Williams can play a linebacker role in some defensive packages and if the Cowboys plan on him to have more fun on the field this season, he should be able to roam around and make punishing hits on defenders.

Also, it will be interesting to see how my cousin, Patrick Watkins, performs this season. He started nine games his rookie season at free safety over vet Keith Davis, though I thought that was more about former coach Bill Parcells being upset that Davis was shot that summer, than about ability.

Anyway, the safety position will have some interesting play this season. The coaches and several players have also talked about second-year man Courtney Brown's development.

Of course, defensive coordinator Brian Stewart raves about Hamlin all the time. Hamlin is the key to this position, more than anybody else.

What I don't understand is where all this talk about Henry playing safety is coming from? From the sounds of it he was playing in the slot as a dime corner. If the package is really a dime then there would 2 safeties and 4 corners one of which was Henry.

That is what I thought after reading some posts. It doesn't say anywhere that Henry was playing safety when he made the INTs. ALl it really states is that the players were laughing that Pac-man is getting all the attention for his 2 INTs during OTAs, but Henry has gotten 3.

USAToday Inside Slant: NOTES, QUOTES -

—CB Anthony Henry said he is open to moving to safety if it will be best for the team and prolong his career. The Cowboys could have a potential logjam at cornerback if Pacman Jones is reinstated. Jones could start opposite Terence Newman, allowing Henry to possibly move to free safety. Henry played safety his first three years in college.

"At some point it could happen," Henry said. "I am not sure when. If they made the decision, I would be down (with the move). I think I will make the switch eventually. That's what I have in my mind and plan on doing at some point. I know it's something I could learn and play well. I understand it. Terence (Newman) got paid, they draft a corner in the first round and bring in Pacman. It does affect me. All I can do is play my best and try to be successful and let things fall where they fall."

It's funny that when Roy plays this position in the dime package he is moving from strong safety to linebacker, but when Henry plays this position he's moving from corner to free safety.

"At some point it could happen" Ellis said. "I am not sure when. If they made the decision (save his reps for pass rush situations) I would be down with the move. I think I will make the switch eventually. That's what I have in my mind and plan on doing at some point. I know its something I could learn and play well. I understand it. I'm getting older, they drafted Spencer in the 1st round, you need depth, versatility, multiple pass rushers, and you need people fresh. It does affect me. All I can do is play my best, try to be successful, and let things fall where they fall"

How refreshing it would be. :D

I'd rather see Watkins and Henry at S in the dime, and Hamlin and KB at the linebacker spots.

No way. The cap penalty would be outrageous, plus we have no idea if Pacman will keep his nose clean, or if Mike Jenkins will be a player.

We might as well keep Roy and enjoy the depth at cornerback.

myth. but we're still not gonna cut him. those who keep saying it should happen need to find another hobby.

I'll be glad when he's gone just so we can't stop the discussion once and for all. Sort of like the Quincy discussions.

I don't always agree with Vela's analysis but the David Fulcher comparison was a pretty good one. I recall Fulcher however, being a bigger hitter than our current version of Roy.

and just lke the quincy discussions, the focus merely changed, right?

when roy is gone those who want someone gone will just find another target.

The, "Get rid of Iceberg" threads won't be more than two weeks after we cut Roy. Don't plan any family vacations anytime soon, buddy! ;)

Henry plays on the first team so it would presumably be against Romo or Johnson or both combined.

Remember how last year it was Brady James that everyone hated on?
Bradie didn't change his play. He just lost 20 pounds and stopped playing football on 3rd downs.

And no longer had guards like Andrews getting free shots at him down after down.

Remember in the Seattle playoff game when we'd stay in base 3-4 defense when Seattle rolled out 4 and 5 receiver sets?

Those were good times.
