Who's Hot? Who's Not? JuJo & Spears

WHO’S HOT: Marcus Spears. The massive defensive end has been outspoken about his unhappiness playing under the previous head coach. Such comments place “put-up-or-shut-up’’ pressure on a guy. After one day and two no-pads practices, Spears is “putting up.’’ Coaches were pleased with his work, and even a layman could notice his high-level motor; in drills that featured defenders running to the ball, for instance, Spears was frequently downfield as fast and as far as the linebackers.

WHO’S NOT: Julius Jones. Oh, he’s still “hot’’ as a player. And his physique seems more impressive than ever. And yes, he’s still the first-team guy ahead of MB3, with no suggestion from anybody around here that JuJo’s status is in danger of changing. But Phillips – while detailing all the marvelous ways he plans on making use of JuJo’s skills -- did take a poke at Julius’ decision to do his offseason work elsewhere.

So Phillips took a poke at him. I don't see that having any lasting effect at all since JJ came into camp in shape and very knowledgeable about the new offense. Also considering the many rumors around re our trading him, maybe he was just smart enough to get out of town for a while so the media couldn't find/hound him.

Two players that seem to like to whine more than play are Akin Ayodele and Julius Jones....I would not be upset to see either of them traded or cut. By the way, Jones is not "hot" as a player...he has sucked as a starter...runs like a little girl afraid of any contact.

Marcus should shut up and play....the new coach says he is high on "team / family" so getting upset and shooting off your mouth is counter productive and a way out of town.

Akin and Julius were on a sports show the other day talking about the cowboys and the upcoming season, and both spent the time whining about how they were coached / used........I have little patience for players that whine. They need to take ownership of their careers and put up or shut up.

And I thought JJ enjoyed contact... you know, since he is a "pile-seeker."

I think he just wants a hug....just a little girl looking for affection....but no rough stuff....:laugh1:

I didn't take what Akin said as whining. Matter of fact, I think he went out of his way to not throw BP or any other players under the bus.

One of the things he mentioned was that there were guys were frustrated because they didn't feel that the coaches were putting them in the best position to succeed.

What I do find interesting is that people are saying Phillips was upset with Julius and yet there isn't one specific quote which says he was unhappy with him. And Julius also said he was going to report to every OTA and minicamp going forward.

I think folks are taking every little thing and blowing it out of proportion.

You are absolutely right about JJ. As a matter of fact WP made it his business to emphasize that he was not upset with JJ and that he have been impressed with him based on past films and also the condition he arrived at mini camp. I too do not understand how people can read something or hear something and then turn it around and make more out of it then it really is.
As Akin, I have never heard a negative thing from him or about him since he arrived in Dallas. he have been a very solid contributor not to mention good character player.

Watch Spears this year gang. He may be the most motivated guy on the team. It may be feeding time at the zoo for him. His style of play seems to fit the type of D Phillips is installing here. There is no doubt he wants to shut up all the naysayers.

This article certainly had to stretch the meaning of the word "not"

Because he wanted to work out somewhere else :lmao2:

The 1st couple points actually make him "hot" IMO.

This is just plain stupid to have a who's hot and who's not in minicamp.

regarding CountryBoy's "put up or shut up" advice, here's hoping CountryBoy follows the latter part of it.

I believe that he could do what he want because if Cleveland Browns start on their losing streak which I really hope and Cowboys end up with the first pick in the draft and Darren McFadden stays healthy and also have a heisman trophy season, I believe that we already have a running back.

I think in his mini-camp Saturday interview, he made it clear he wasn't pleased that Jones choose not to come to Dallas.

I see it like this. This is a team sport and it requires cohesion. You won't get that when your 1,000 miles a way. Notice everytime you hear about players training elsewhere, there is apprehension coming from the team? Well, you could feel the apprehension coming from Wade. He even noted, he wants his team to work together.

As disappointed as I am with Jones I don't care if he attends off-season work with the team or not.

No, he didn't. He said he would have liked for him to have trained with the team, but he wasn't upset with him. There's a difference.

I don't disagree with this. Just saying that Phillips isn't pitching a fit about him not being there. And he's gone out of his way to state that he wasn't unhappy with Julius.

To me, this is much ado about nothing. Just like the TO non-story.
