You guys need to stop overrating Ferguson. Solid 4th round pick but not a game changer. Broaddus says the Cowboys like Hendershot better and Dak stopped throwing the UDFA the football after the ball bounced of his chest in Tennessee. If tight end is the bpa in the first, second, or third rounds, we will draft one with no hesitation.
Broaddus hinted that maybe the cowboys like Hendershot better. It was not a definitive statement.

I agree that I'm only interested in a potential difference maker at TE. "Okay" TEs are easy to find. Look at our tight ends ever since Witten left.

-Geoff Swaim (7th rounder)
-Jarwin (7th or UDFA, I forget)
-Schultz (4th)
-Ferguson (4th)
-Hendershot (UDFA)
-the immortal Rico Gathers (7th or UDFA)

We've gone really cheap investing draft capital there - like that looks about as unloved as our DT room - and it's worked out fine.

With Ferguson and Hendershot developing nicely, I just don't see the need for another mid round TE. Maybe a really late rounder or a free agent just to stick behind those two and keep the TE conveyer belt going, but it's basically first rounder or nothing for me.

I feel similarly which is why it would make more sense to draft a guy like Kincaid than Mayer. If we’re going for the homerun prospect in the mid-round I’d be targeting Kuntz.

I think they are going to wait and take one between the 3rd and 5th rounds.

Some guys to watch:
Sam LaPorta Iowa
Cameron Latu Alabama
Payne Durham Purdue
Josh Whyle Cincinnati
Brenton Strange Penn State

My favorite is Payne Durham.

I think they are more likely to take a wide receiver higher and take advantage of the tight end depth in the mid rounds.
I certainly hope this is the case cause i dont see it as a high priority. I dont think the cupboards bare. Id much prefer OG and DT and maybe RB before it

I would love it if they got him at pick 129. I see he was a 30 visit guy. I can see why after looking at him and listening to him. I love the Purdue guys. I see that they also interviewed his qb. It wouldn't surprise me if the draft 1 or 2 of the Purdue guys.
The QB is very accurate and the placement on his passes is impressive, I like that guy. The relationship between the QB and TE is a close one, and I like the tape on Durham...it just with that 40 time I don't see him being picked before the 6th round considering how stocked the position is.

I like the qb, wr Charlie Jones, and the cb. The qb is best friends with Charlie Jones. They grew up together.

Real close group then cause from a video I watch Payne seemed to be the best friend. Cool let's get all of them.

I made a post about him about a week ago. I believe He will be an innovative TE. His blocking ability is uncanny he could be a classic H Back or even Used as a Full Back

Imaging Him and Pollard running routes out if the Backfield

I'm definitely a fan of Mayer or Kinkaid in the 1st. But if they do wait to take one until 3rd-5th I'd love LaPorta

The thing I don't get about some of the guys who think Ferguson is fine to start is many of them will suggest Mayer isn't a strong enough athlete to be a game changer at TE (which I disagree personally) then choose to ignore the fact that Ferguson tested as a considerably worse athlete than Mayer

I think they are close enough in terms of athleticism that I don’t Mayer makes sense. If I’m drafting a TE early I want a dynamic athlete that is a matchup problem for the defense. That’s the context for me.
