Restraint is a good thing in free agency. The lack of it has hamstrung this team for too long. What the front office has done thus far is understandable, and it deserves patience and trust given recent history.
However, that's not to say some damage control isn't in order over DeMarco Murray.
Romo loves Murray. So does Garrett, Witten, Dez, and that entire offensive line. I'm sure the defensive unit has fond feelings, too. Murray is a Class A person, and a great teammate. He was a model citizen and employee his entire time here. And his versatility as a blocker, runner, and receiver were valuable.
But not paying the good football player like a Hall of Famer was the right move.
Still, I'm sure some heads are spinning. Players are wondering, probably in a bit of a daze, why Murray is gone, along with Carter, Harris, Durant, and Parnell, before any meaningful signings have taken place. Murray, especially, was a big part of last year's 13-5 season.
Now, Jerry and Stephen have some explaining to do, not to us, but to the players and coaches. Without giving away their entire plan, they need to reassure this squad that there is a plan in place. I'm sure the vision will be clearer come July, but there's no need for anything internal to boil over, and certainly over the airwaves.
This is fascinating offseason as we all watch in wonder. This organization has changed, although we're still not quite sure what it's changed into.
