Time for some internal damage control

Restraint is a good thing in free agency. The lack of it has hamstrung this team for too long. What the front office has done thus far is understandable, and it deserves patience and trust given recent history.

However, that's not to say some damage control isn't in order over DeMarco Murray.

Romo loves Murray. So does Garrett, Witten, Dez, and that entire offensive line. I'm sure the defensive unit has fond feelings, too. Murray is a Class A person, and a great teammate. He was a model citizen and employee his entire time here. And his versatility as a blocker, runner, and receiver were valuable.

But not paying the good football player like a Hall of Famer was the right move.

Still, I'm sure some heads are spinning. Players are wondering, probably in a bit of a daze, why Murray is gone, along with Carter, Harris, Durant, and Parnell, before any meaningful signings have taken place. Murray, especially, was a big part of last year's 13-5 season.

Now, Jerry and Stephen have some explaining to do, not to us, but to the players and coaches. Without giving away their entire plan, they need to reassure this squad that there is a plan in place. I'm sure the vision will be clearer come July, but there's no need for anything internal to boil over, and certainly over the airwaves.

This is fascinating offseason as we all watch in wonder. This organization has changed, although we're still not quite sure what it's changed into.

Deserves trust for one good year. Really?

If I were Dez I would not sign a long term deal. Franchise him for 2 years, then scram. Romo will be done at that point anyways.

I think players understand this is a business more than a lot around here.

Tell me zone members.... When your friend at works leaves for a better gig or more money... Do you walk around "In a haze?" Or do you congratulate them, let them know how much you'll miss them, promise to stay in touch and get on with your business?

These are adults.

Again fans get more bent out of shape than professionals. By far. It's awkward and embarrassing how some have acted the last 18 hours.

Great post. At the end of the day it's a job to these players. No different than yours or mine.

No, I ask my buddy to take me with him! ;)

I guarantee you that is not the case. The NFL is a business and the players all understand Chip got crazy and vasly overpaid Murray.

You think there is any damage control going on in Detroit over Suh and his deal with Miami and the players being in a bit of a daze?

I Think this is the Cowboys plan all along. Either Dez signs a team friendly deal or the Cowboys just rent him out short term instead of locking him in long term only to see Romo retire in a few years and Dez suddenly not happy or having his albatross contract with no qb to get him the ball.

Murray was more than just a player to Witten, Romo, Garrett, and Dez. He was a very close friend. They didn't want this.

I understand and agree with you. Doesn't change anything I posted. Not one word.

Silliness. They're grown men. Is this more a reflection of you emoting?

Not me. I'm glad he's gone. That's what I wanted, a younger, fresher back to go with this young offensive line. (Although Peterson intrigues me.)

Players know what kind of beating Murray took last year. They like him and wanted that rewarded. Dallas did the right thing.

Has anything happened so far that truly hinders this team from improving. Most of the players that left were expected to, and probably could be replaced or pushed for a roster spot anyway.
With the exception of Murray. But he too may be replaced, it's not over. Sure the chemistry may be effected a bit. But it is every year to some degree. Players come and go for various reasons, so the chemistry is dynamic, not static.

It's not unusual and even the great Tuna said, 30% turnover is not unusual. That's about 15 players.

4 or 5 drafted players will make the team, and on average, a team loses, and this is a wild guess, 4 or 5 players to FA, and another 5 or 6 from churning anyway.

I know it's frustrating we haven't replaced any of these guys. But it takes time, be patient. All will be fine.

IF a long term Dez deal doesn't get worked out, I think the players will definitely take notice. Red flags would pop up in any workplace if talented, hard working, dependable people started leaving because management doesn't pay them.

Again, I wouldn't sign Murray for $42 million either. But Dez needs to be signed.

Well, we sure know what the organization ISN'T anymore...to the chagrin of some here, they aren't a free-spending, wheeling and dealing, fly by the seat of their britches one. Man, the Cowboys and Eagles are certainly a study of contrasting styles this offseason. Kinda weird.
