Love the guy and love what the 1st ballot HOFer has meant to the Cowboys. He is going to get full salary for not playing this year. Sadly, his body is not holding up for him to play 16 games in the NFL.

Time to send him off with a hero's farewell and his guaranteed money.

Just wait and let him retire on his own terms. Obviously, Dallas thinks they have the long-term solution to the position in Tyler Smith, so there's no hurry with Tyron. He'll go on IR after making the initial roster, and he'll probably stay on it all year, so it's not like he'll take up a roster spot other than for the first day, when we'll cut some vet like Goodwin, Maher, McQuaide for a day.

Obviously, if Tyler works out and Tyron wants to come back next year, we'll have to part ways, but hopefully by the time this season is up, he'll see that it's time to call it quits.

Why?
He’s injured so you’d have to pay him an injury settlement and it would be most of his salary anyway
Moving on from Tyron is something they have to consider but not till after this season

Uh why? Who the hell you replacing him with?

He's not breaking the bank. Want space that desperately, get it by releasing Zeke after this season.
He’s not saving you much cutting him since he would get an injury settlement
I think both guys you look at but not till after this season is over

That's a good question. Who the hell are they replacing him with? You know he is petty much done for the year, right?

And I return to, he's not breaking the bank. So let's say next year we get him for 13 games on his current contract, that's still far more valuable than releasing him and replacing him with some JAG.

I'm not against moving on from Smith if we have his replacement ready, but we don't really need to contemplate this right now because he is on a friendly contract. Great LTs don't grow on trees.

Do you give him an injury settlement at the end of the season after paying his full salary?

Love the player, but it's foolish to depend on him. Management penciling him in as the starter for this season was moronic. They are slow learners.
He's pretty much a waste of a roster spot at this point. I don't think he can contribute in any meaningful way this season.

When you look at his availability the past 3 seasons, it's an easy decision. He is not a 20-something player who will have a better success rate with recovery.

No, you keep him, move him to IR.

The remote chance he returns in December. Then you decide, sit him for the year. Or activate him and use him as the swing tackle. If all is going good without him.

Review it all next off season.

Nope...Jerry said Tyron will be back, probably better than ever, for the playoffs so they can make a deep run.

I’m not sure if OP was referring to now or next year but if Tyler Smith by chance turns out to be quality and that’s a big if you keep him there from now on as that’s why you drafted him

And if that’s the case there’s no point in holding on to Tyron regardless of the contract but Tyler needs to be a success otherwise you keep Tyron
