No reason to do it now. They would not save any cap dollars vs cutting him in March of 2023.Love the guy and love what the 1st ballot HOFer has meant to the Cowboys. He is going to get full salary for not playing this year. Sadly, his body is not holding up for him to play 16 games in the NFL.
Time to send him off with a hero's farewell and his guaranteed money.

How many games has he been available during 20-22? At least offer some worthy debate.Hall of Fame career but the OP wants to cut bait because the man got injured.
That's true. Have to wonder where his head is at and if he just doesn't pack it in after 2022 anyway. His luck is worse than his injuries. I have to believe he doesn't need the money and I know there comes a time when you start considering how future quality of life plays out.No reason to do it now. Excellent point! Sentimental roster management is a bad strategy. No disrespect intended to you, but the whole idea of letting a player go out “on his own terms” in the salary cap/roster limited era is a very competitively unhealthy way to view this situation. Either he is worthy of his salary and his roster spot or he is not.
People complain about winning nothing for the last 26 years or so and counting—and yet espouse a mindset like this. Either you want to win—-and do all you can to win—or you don’t and you do things like overpay Witten and keep his past his usefulness. But make no mistake about it, sentimental feel good things get in the way of winning a Super Bowl.
Not here to debate right now, bye.How many games has he been available during 20-22? At least offer some worthy debate.
