Time to either trade Parsons or build around him

It's a simple choice really, if Jerry wants to move on from Parsons and a heavy contract he definitely needs to find a buyer for one of the best defensive players in the league but Parsons won't come cheap and if Jerry does it right he'll have the upper hand (we hope) when it comes to negotiating with other teams. If Jerry resigns him then you better go heavy on defense come the draft and I mean you get the best defensive player available with your first pick and keep it going with your second. Personally, I think Zayden Walker out of Georgia would be a perfect complement to Parsons on the outside and that tandem would be unstoppable. So Jerry needs to pull the trigger on one or the other because that's how you would be able to build a competitive roster in Dallas.

I am really against trading Parsons. However, if Jerry is not going to commit to strengthening the defensive line, and adding another pass rush threat opposite Micah, then he might as well trade him.

But something tells me Jerry is going to draft offense in the first round this. I suspect it will be a skill position player. I am okay with anyone who improves this team, lord knows there are plenty of weaknesses, but I prefer we find a dominating inside defensive guy. I just wonder if that guys is in this draft. They are some good DTs, but none on the order of T'Vondre Sweat or Jalen Carter.

Nope, gotta wait for more leaves to fall….which essentially means waiting for the price to rise.

I don’t think Jerry cares about having to pay more as long as the he gets the attention of the contract dispute.

Kneeland, Liufau, Carson, Mazi, Overshwon, Fehoko. Last couple of drafts have defensive heavy in first 4-5 rounds. Sprinkled in a few FA's. They need to keep adding thru the draft and FA to make this a top 10 if not top 5 unit again.

Do you honestly believe trading even 3 first round picks for Micah would improve this team? Jerry would draft 3 CBs with those picks.

If you were going to trade Micah, you should have traded CeeDee. Should have traded everyone you could for picks for the next draft. Jerry isn't interested in building a winning team; he just pays his own, and that's it.

I agree 100%. I hate doing things half way. I don't think they will trade Parsons, but if that thought enters their mind- then they should have planned ahead. Traded CeeDee and not re-upped Dak too.

Why do you guys still do trade Parsons threads. The Cowboys are not trading him. You signed CeeDee and Dak then trade Parsons? Makes no sense.

Jerry has always been an offensive first. He would rather lose 35-32, then win 13-10.

They do not really need to go that heavy on defense. The defense is actually pretty good, outside of being weak in the trenches against the run. They need to stay healthy better but otherwise its a good defense. The problem is on offense. They need 2 new OLine starters, 1 new WR starter, a RB starter, and for the rookies to step up next year.

(Asking for a friend)

Serious, naive question as I don't know the player well.

If you are Dan Quinn, Adam Peters, do you bid on Parsons if in FA? Parsons is supposed to be an elite rusher and that has value. And presumably Parsons and Quinn get along, no?

RedComs have lots of cap space. But also have a sort of poor man's Parsons with Luvou, with sunk cap and control for next two years. Louvou is playing weak side LB (of two, 4-2-5), but blitzes often and also lines up at DE on passing downs. Wagner the signal caller MLB type is a FA and old, but could conceivably be resigned. Not clear if you can play L and P together in the LB spots (if either can call the signals and play MLB). I guess you could also just put Parsons at DE (don't know much about him, other than the sacks...can he stand up to regular DE duty?)

Honest question, if you're Peters do you go pay the market freight and grab Parsons? Or just do without, stick to the draft, allocate cap resources at other areas of concern (DB, OT, TE, etc.)

Totally agree... but I will say when Parson spoke on the contract situation and stated he didnt need the highest contract bc he wanted to be able to play with a team that was competitive was a very encouraging outlook, bc I dont think he deserves the highest contract but we havent been able to get the perfect compliment to any of our pass rushers over the years. If he comes back for less they need to be aggressive about building around him to capitalize. But if he is asking for highest or closest to highest paid player, Id trade him for two 1st and move on and start rebuilding on defense.

Build around Parsons and construct a bad azz defense. They've tried offense for 2 decades and have come up empty. Trading Micah, just to go into a draft to find another Micah is counterproductive.
2 DTs
1 MLB, 1ILB
1 FS
1 CB
That's 5-6 players and some can be just solid...this is in addition to retaining Chauncey, Osa, and Jourdan.

Parsons is a waste on the Cowboys D right now. They have so many holes, it's easy for good offenses to control Parsons. Trade him and churn that into 2 or 3 good players. Paying Parsons $30M/year (what he is worth) would be almost as dumb as paying Prescott $60M/year.

If you are going to keep Parsons then commit to building a legit defense around him. If you are not then trade the guy so he can go win a SB.

It still devastates me that Carter fell to the Eagles.

I don’t think the reason Jerry won’t trade Parsons is because he doesn’t see the logic of doing so, but rather he’s secretly afraid he won’t get the value for him in return that would make it logical.

He isn’t exactly know for coming out on the better side of trades. He’s either given up too much (Lance), or not received enough (Cooper)
