Time to replace Ogletree!

Love all the bench Ogletree threads. Guy has the 4th option still has 21 catches and almost 300 years on the season. Not sure what else you can see he was only targeted 2 times yesterday. I think they need to get him into the flow early. But as usual Old Red Ball does not know how to put our players in position to be successful and become better, and run plays they excel in. People seem to forget that the "3rd" guy on this team is not a slot guy. Which is the great white hope (beasley) and Harris's strong point. If you notice it appears that the routes that KO runs seem to take longer to develop and obviously Romo doesn't have time to allow them to develop.

There are plenty of catches he needs to come down with. I can remember two third down catches he dropped...

To further disprove your post... Look what Laurent Robinson did with that same roster spot last year. The 4th option usually goes against the worst opposing CB yet he cant seem to take over. Id rather have crayton

They run good routes and know how to get open, also they have good hands. Tony need someone other than Jason to be where they suppose to be and will catch the ball. We need more production from 3rd Wr position. Ogletree hasn't done anything since the first game.

His replacement is:
COLE BEASLEY or
DANNY COALE

What you guys think?

Beasley or Harris is my vote.. but really anyone will do as long as its not KO.

Wana guess how many snaps he has on offense all season? Wana guess how many targets?

Wes Welker.

It was time to put his snaps up for grabs last week. Maybe they gave him another week to see if he could replicate his week 1 production against the Giants.

We should be giving snaps to Harris or Holmes or Beasley. I also think we need to start working Hana and Phillips into the game plan more regularly. Honestly, I'd throw to the TEs all day--like we just did against the Giants--until teams commit to stopping it, if they can. Just feed the ball to players who are going to be where they're supposed to be. Take your occasional shots downfield to Austin, or to Dez if he doesn't have to make a cut and can just win the jump ball. Feed it to Murray in the passing game as much as you can, and rely on your defense to stop the other guys. Who cares about passing yards, just stop turning the ball over.

And, yeah, hopefully one of the three young WRs can step it up and consistently win the one:eek:ne matchups we rely on to make this passing game work. Things will eventually open up if we can just stop shooting ourselves in the foot.

He's a hero week 1, now it's time to replace him :laugh2:

Not to mention he had us in position to win vs the ravens with that PI......but sure, let's replace him.

Are you being serious? Have you watched him play the last few weeks? Hes been the cause of at least 3 turnovers in the last few weeks. He sucks and always has. 1 good week does nothing to solidify him in my mind. He's had 3 years to prove himself, and 1 good week in all that time means he SUCKS

I hope, and I am sure...at least for garrett's sake. If Beasley or Harris was any better, they would be out there.

Then again, you may never know

Sadly, Ogletree is not going anywhere, they will continue to play him no matter how much he regresses. Then next year, they will re-sing him and say they had to because none of the other recivers on the team have any experience.

That's the way this organization is run!

He needs to be benched to see if that will light a fire under his butt.

I don't know why we didn't see more 2-TE sets with Witten and Phillips. Not only would that have helped the running game - especially on the edges wit a RB like Felix Jones who is more of an East-West runner - but it also would Replace Ogletree with Phillips as that inside/slot receiver.

For some reason Phillips barely plays, but does nothing but make plays when he does. He's a crisp route runner and is as sure as sure can be when catching the ball. I just don't get why he's not used more.
I thought that too until a got a second look at what a disaster Phillips was as a blocker. he as getting dominated even by linebackers.
He and Cook were getting blown up regularly.

According to Nick Eatman, before the season started, some of the current coaches told him that Ogletree wasn't going to come through.

After the first game, Eatman asked again and the coaches told him that that's great that he had a good game but they told him that Ogletree still isn't to be trusted and he'll let the team down.

But John Phillips runs good routes inside and can catch the ball. They don't have to use him as a second TE; why couldn't they simply line him up as a slot WR in a 3-WR set? That's already an upgrade from Ogletree

8 catches for 114 yds and 2 tds in the season opener; 13 for 134 yds and 0 tds in the six games since.

As has already been pointed out, Robinson flourished in the slot wr role last season so it can be done.

Ogletree's yds per reception has been steadily trending downwards this season.

  • 14.25 yds per rec in the opener;
  • 26.00 yds/rec in game 2 (1 rec);
  • 11.40 yds/rec in game 3 (5 recs);
  • 8.00 yds/rec in game 4 (3 recs & one disastrous deflection that resulted in an int in the red zone);
  • nothing in game 5;
  • 6.75 yds/rec in game 6 (4 recs)
  • nothing in game 7

I agree, why no be more creative and use 3 TE sets with Hanna in the slot? confuse the D once every 8 games? ;)

A lot of OTree's decline can be blamed on his unreliablity. In recent games he has caused two interceptions and nearly a third by doing funky things in his route running or just flat out havng the ball bounce off of him.

It's a sad comedy with how often we have had interceptions this year off of fluke plays. At least 50% have been that way--which is still far too many. Last game, really 1 of 4 was a "normal pick". The JPP play was just a freak of nature type thing by a man with a 7 foot wing span and freakish abiltiy. The one to Dez was a bad route. The one to Miles was on Romo..imo. And the other one was basically a punt.

But some of KO's decline is straight correlation of Romo now having a healthy Witten to finally go with both of his top two relatively healthy WRs.
I'm not sure he had this for more than a game or two last year--which opened the door for Robinson to shine.

I have stated that I would like to see us go to the 2 TE sets and throw downfield to the backs a bit more. Heck, Hanna was wide open for a TD against NY and Romo flat threw the ball into the cheap seats so yeah, it can be done.
