Time travel, impossible?

Keep in mind that, even if time travel is possible, it doesn't necessarily mean you can change anything.

Consider the grandfather's paradox. If you went back in time for the purpose of killing your grandfather, you might discover that you're unable to do so...for whatever reason.

Good choice, Laphroig is arguably my favourite. Lagavulin and Bunnahabhain also worth a mention. At the moment I've got a bottle of Bruichladdich Rocks which I'm enjoying despite it lacking the characteristic Islay smokiness.

You poor, poor misguided souls.

Liquid heaven distilled from the tears of angels who looked upon mankind and lamented that those they looked after in Heaven and Earth did not have a drink to remind them of things greater than themselves.

May I present to you:

I'm a McAllen fan, but I've never had the 30 year. I usually will buy the 12 year, and when the company throws a party they will buy 18 year shots. I would never spend the kind of money that 30 year costs on any bottle of whiskey.

Are you that guy named Connor MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod who was born in 1518 in the village of Glenfinnan on the shores of Loch Shiel?

There can be only one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Forgive me as I read your post in the previous thread. The grandfather paradox goes as follows: Suppose you travel back in time and killed your biological grandfather before he met your grandmother. As a result, you would have never been concieved in the first place to be able to travel back.

What if my grandmother met another man and got married and had my mother or father? Would I still not exist?

I got a bottle of 28 year old for my 30th (was distilled the same year I was born) that I'm waiting for a suitable excuse to crack open. If you have a look around you can find older whisky at a pretty good price, at least over here you can but it tends to be the smaller distilleries or independant bottlings which I'm not sure you'll get over there.

Dad got a bottle from one of the companies we contract with out of Mexico to build one of our frac sanders. They went from a flyspeck hole-in-the-wall with a few cracker box welders to a company with, hell, maybe 60 or 70 employees in 18 months.

Never underestimate the value of appreciated pilon when doing business with good old boys from Texas.

But if you were never conceived to be able to go back in time and kill him then he would be alive to spawn your father who in turn spawns you thus you are able to travel back in time and kill your grandfather.

:p:

That is why is referred to as a paradox. :laugh2:

Basically the premise is, you change the course of history after history has occurred. This is were the parallel time-lines theory comes in.

I'm not sure if your question is sincere but I will humor you, of course you would not exist. Your grandmother could never have the same child (your mother or father) without your grandpa. He or she would have different genes, thus you would never have existed.

Ahh, yes the parallel universe scenario.

I could still be me just a different me :D

Might or might not be impossible. The arrow of time may preclude it. OTOH, enough energy may do it. Lot's of energy.

I can see we have an impasse here. As a gift to these boards, I will serve as an impartial arbitrator to determine what is indeed the best scotch on the planet. Everyone who thinks they know the best Scotch, just send me a bottle. I will (without compensation) carefully and thoroughly taste each entry & grade them on several characteristics. When I wake up, I will announce the winner.
