Tip-Off Plays

That stat is skewed because at the end of the half or end of the games, teams mostly pass on all downs when they are losing or tied.

Before last game, we ran 218 run plays on first down and 168 pass. That looks somewhat even except when you check out how much of that pass plays on first down was at end of the half or games.

We ran 16 run plays on first down and 51 pass plays at the end of the half and end of games. That means all other times we ran 202 times on first down and passed 117 times.

That's 64% that we run on first down during normal game situations.

The league average is about 52%.

This is why I don't even respond to most of that stuff. My eye test is pretty accurate....

Whenever Street or Whitehead are the only WRs with 3 TEs, guaranteed running play. i think they've used play-action out of this formation less than 5 times in 2 seasons.

Lucky whitehead fake sweep

I'd have to go back and look, but it seems like every time we put Whitehead in and motion him toward the line, it's a running play ... possibly to the side where he goes in motion unless we fake the sweep.

as a rule, you can look at the formation and tell what they are going to do, sometimes they surprise me, but on most
plays, like 80 % I know what is coming, so do the defenders.

when Dez and TWill are on the sidelines, and Lucky is sent in motion and lines up behind the guard always means a run to that side with Luck and his 165 lbs as the lead blocker! Perhaps I shouldn't be posting this, in case the Commanders are spying this board for clues. I'm sure no one else has noticed this.

Let's name 'em.

One of the big ones I see is that anytime we bunch trips WR it is either going to be a WR screen or a quick slant. Just like on the Moore INT. Bunch right, throw quick slant left. Could have spotted it a mile away.

My favourite is the jumbo set at the goal line. Never works. But hey. Let's keep trying it. Even though the other team knows exactly what we are doing.

Opposing offense 3& 6 , our Cbs give 8 yard cushion and get beaten by comeback route resulting in first down .

Deep comeback routes have been a big problem with our scheme , CBs or whatever , may be pass rush is not that good ?

In the first half of games, the Cowboys called 91 pass plays and 116 running plays on first down. That's 56% run.

Over entire games, it was 53% run.

I have no idea why people think we ran on first down all the time this year.

Dallas going into October of this year was on pace for more negative runs on first down than we were last year. They were second worst by October and that was with Romo playing two games.

That would indicate we are more predictable.

The difference between 4,5 and 5 yards is not that significant, because .5 yards is not going to matter much as far as manageability in third downs.

And Based on what Zman said its even worse when you adjust for passing from behind late in games.

When we get in the red-zone, we can't score, whether pass or run..

There's a lgical reason for that, however. Trips to one side almost always yields man coverage on the other. That's gonna be your hot route every time.

Well I had high hopes for this thread after reading the initial post. Turns out it's basically the same responses over and over again. Was actually hoping to see some tendencies I hadn't personally noticed, but I should have known better.

Yeah. I'm not getting suckered into this recycled argument again. Whatever makes you smile.

It's recycled because truth has to continually be put in front of ones face. That said, the "Best O-Line in the league" didn't live up to that claim either.

Oh a truth. Can you point me to the place where it's written and confirmed as truth?

Thats not true. Without Romo and Dez defenses play single coverage which allows more players to defend the run. Run game is fine. ......missing our franchise QB was the problem this season

so your saying always running on first down is smart thing to do? yeah ok.....

3rd down.....need 7 yards for first down, run 6 yard route, make catch but get tackled behind first down marker.
