Yep, interesting times here
Jerry always keeps it entertaining
Hey that's the goal....keep everyone distracted while I attempt to play NFL GM, which I'm qualified to do because I played guard for Arkansas six thousand years ago.

This soft in big games thing is going to trickle down to the most casual and forgiving fans....soon.

He knows it.

I think you can only do the entertainment and not winning thing for only so long.
Americans want winners and his act is wearing thin.

You'd tend to think that any reasonable people would sit at a table, realize they are good but not good enough, and figure out how to build from here.

They've been in this spot several times and always choose the safe route....secret sauce if you will....and it never works.

And they still do the very same thing....over and over.

Selling hope is going to become difficult before long...even for the ultimate snake oil hustler.

i think MM's performance last season upset Jerry so much Payton is already here.

These Payton fantasies are going to crash hard when it becomes apparent he's not interested in working for Jerry.

I try to limit the loser snark, mostly because I don’t have millions of dollars and a SB ring, and I’ve never coached in the NFL, but I’m kinda weird.
The mods need to create a snarky hyperbole zone and keep these weirdos contained lol

Sean Payton contract details
Payton signed a contract with the Saints in 2019 that made him one of the highest-paid coaches in the NFL. It was a five-year pact that paid him roughly $9 million annually. He made it through just two of those seasons before opting to step away.

However, Payton will still be under contract for the next three years despite leaving. As such, if he wants to return to the NFL in 2023, the Saints will still own his rights for at least another season.

What does that mean? A team would have to compensate the Saints to hire Payton, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

you may be right but
1) he walked away from 45 million. Nobody does that. Paytons up to something
2) Jerry wanted Payton before caving into the "New Orleans doesnt want to lose 2 great coaches in same year" plea. He regrets doing that
3) Jerrys never handled FA like this year .there's got to be a reason to his madness
4) They have worked together before
5) there will be huge amount of cap money and 2 recent drafts for a new coach to work with. MM on the other hand so far gets to use none of it

again you may be right but we've seen Jerry handle FA for 30+ years. hes never treated it like a throw away year. He is this year. Why?
I'm not trying to say Payton is a savior but it looks like Jerry already has his mind set on doing this. If not you tell me what hes doing

Sean Payton is going to be working in the NFL when Jerry is way dead.

I'll refer you back to my earlier post... 10 years/135 million.

"Nah Jerry I'm good."

I'm seriously guessing of course, but I would think he would want a coach here that he likes, knows and trusts before he bails out.

You hate Jerry and so do I. Doesn't mean Payton does, especially when the whole idea is predicated on Jerry not being around.

That’s only this season.

It would void to my knowledge next season

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy admitted that Amari Cooper and La’el Collins’ decisions were difficult ones

The head coach confirmed what most Cowboys fans were frustrated with by saying that the goal this offseason was to keep as many in-house players as possible. But McCarthy also doesn’t want Dallas fans to panic. He said that there’s plenty of time left for the front office to make more moves and decisions before the 2022 season starts. He gave a football comparison to explain the offseason decisions so far:

“We’re still in the first 15 (minutes of the offseason). The first quarter is not even completed yet. If people are frustrated, well, sometimes games are a little frustrating. We’ve definitely come out with a run the football and take care of your own mindset. Outside of our own roster, we have a mindset where we’re not going to throw the ball deep with every snap. How’s that for a football analogy?’’

Well, Mike. Seems like Dallas is down by a lot after that “first quarter.” Will three more quarters of the offseason even be enough to get the team to where it needs to be? I guess that depends on what decisions are yet to be made. Based on the throwing the ball deep part of the quote, it seems the front office has no plans to throw big money at anyone outside of the organization. How did that go for the Joneses in the past? Seems ignorant to have faith in these next few quarters.

MIKE DONT CARE lol , he is going to make his 8 mil per year regardless of who is on the team come sept.
Jerry and his boy, dont care as they will get paid well too, no matter what the team looks like in sept.

Everybody with the cowboys gets paid no matter what !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :banghead:

He is right in that lot of time left, but outside of players drafted, just some cheapos might be signed.

Unfortunately, that is not correct.

As Rapoport notes above, Payton has three years remaining on his deal after signing his latest extension in 2019.

The Saints technically hold his rights until 2024 if Payton wants to return to coaching. Should another team want to sign him during that time span, they would have to “compensate” NOLA somehow, whether through draft picks or money.

2021 marked the first time in five seasons that Sean Payton’s Saints missed the playoffs despite eking to a 9-8 winning record.

The Saints were depleted by injuries, salary cap cuts, and COVID-19 absences and hoped for a somewhat fresh start in 2022.
