TNew says lots of blame to go around

Seems to me he accepted responsibility for not playing well and also stated the obvious that the team as a whole did not play particularly well down the stretch. No story here IMO...

At least he's not throwing people under the bus and as glad as I am to see that we've parted ways with him, he's right, there is plenty of blame to go around.

The problem i have with what he said is not that there were others that didn't play well too. But i have a big problem with this comment by him: "Great teams know the blame is on everyone and accept that".

To me thats throwing everyone under the bus. Including the coaches. That doesn't show alot of class especially when the blame and the critics never came form the franchise it came from fans and the press when he got booted.

It is not that TNEW was bad only the last games playing for us. If he played bad for only those games i think the press and the fans would have treated him else when he got cut. But most of us made up theirs minds regarding his performance months and years ago. So think about that TNEW when you demand fairness.

Yes others need to share in the blame, but I am sorry the guy was being paid like an All Pro and didnt come close to playing at that level. If he had it would of helped out the whole defense in my opinion. He was used and abused from the 2nd Washington game on.

Everyone on the team including the coaches had a hand in that disaster last season. I wonder what coach continued to allow Newman to line up 10 yards off the WR on 3rd and short

To all the people slamming Newman, click thru the links and get the whole story. He said nothing wrong and was a class act for the Cowboys. A great example of a high pick playing up to his draft slot. Always unfortunate when news stories get recycled within the media and the headlines get rewritten for maximum drama.

I can't find too much fault with what he said. He admitted that his play wasn't up to par but he certainly wasn't the only one.

What did anyone think he was going to say? What would anyone say in the same situation?

This is not news.. especially with Florio taking something he said and trying to twist it into something else. Come on, now..

I badly wanted to cut TNew last year and yet agree with you.

What else can the guy say. He is basically saying he wasn't good but it is a team sport.

I am mad at his poor play not his commentary.

Long term quality starters on the Cowboys are not rubbish.

I know we all want to hate him for not meeting some of our expectations, but I have a hard time finding anything objectionable here.

Don't agree often but......

Newman sucked
Ball sucked - no pun
Elam - nothing special
The other safety - hot-n-cold
Lee - Great at first - sucked down the stretch
James - sucked
The other old guy sucked
All three inside DEs - sucked
Spencer - SUCKED
Ware - Very good

I won't even start on the offense. So Newman was exactly right, this is why Jerry is basically sort of rebuilding the team. Too many guys sucked and Newman knew it, and knew he was one of the ones that sucked.

Past 2 years*. He made the probowl in 09. He had a great start to last year as well. he just finished so bad that people forget how good he started out .

One of the most overrated pro bowlers ever.

How he made it i don't know and constantly gives a 10 yard cushion to the opposing WR then more often than not muffs the tackle because his speed has diminished quicker than an iceberg in a spa bath.

Of course everyone else is to blame according to him and these comments are no surprise and i hope the door did not slam his arse on the way out.

Good Riddance and it was 12 Mths to late, but better late than never.

Gee i hope we play against him this year and Dez and Miles tear him a new arse.

You really nailed it when you say he blamed everyone else. If only he'd just come out and admit that he, personally, did not play well down the stretch.

"So, basically, Newman thinks that if the rest of the team were a lot better, it would make up for the fact that he wasn’t good enough."

:laugh2:

Pretty Much.

Not for one second sad to see him go.

He is throwing rocks and it would be idiotic to say he did not play well as we and the people that watch the game know all to well how much he sucked.

Newman has not played well for 2 years now at least and the stretch comment is misleading but i expect nothing less.

Game has passed him by and that's that. Leaving a parting comment to deflect blame on everyone else as well is immature and a comment i would expect to see at high school football level.

"Ohhhh it wasn't just me, the other guys sucked to":

Spare me the excuses and worry about your own game Terence not what others are doing and this is his biggest fault. He wants FS help at every play and you know eventually you have to make plays on your own in this league to survive.

I don't agree with your take on Newman's last two years, and I don't agree at all with any bizarre backlash anyone has with a former player saying the entire team fell short last season. They did, and, to a man, I expect every player on the team would say so.

Everybody is different but you cant help but feel the excuses are coming for him because he was a high pick and the need to somewhat justify it. I see things for what they are TBH and i call a Spade a Spade. I found myself cringing whenever a QB targeted the WR that Newman was covering over the last 2 seasons.

Lets face it and had this guy been taken at 121 instead of Top 10 he would of been cut 2 years ago.

All good though to have varying opinions and this is what forums are all about. I am not going to jump on someone for not agreeing with me and get nasty etc. :)

I was a big TNew fan for a few years, then sometime after he must have read his press clippings he became the man most likely to give up the big play at the wrong time, everytime.

He was a MAJOR component of the defense's failures over and over again, at least Ball has the excuse of not having the talent necessary to make plays.

Go back and watch the Arizona game in which McGee should have had his first career NFL victory, only to have Newman give up 4th and 57 or whatever it was.

The guy was a BUST when it counted most. I can think of 4 clutch plays in his seemingly umpteen years in Dallas. Guhbye!

He is right. He was far from the only problem last year.

I don't see what there is to be so up in arms about with what was said here.

Because you don't agree doesn't mean you actually understand what you were watching .

Newman was a liability here for the last 3-4 years , beaten rountinely by the other teams Ace WR - an beaten badly.

He was paid to shutdown the others teams top guy an rarely did that ever happen. He also was a terrible tackler .

He had a few decent at best early years but he never panned out in comparison to where he was picked.

Drafted as a 25 year old.

He's gone. I'm not going to defend his play from this sort of brain dead analysis after the fact. Yes, he got beat from time to time. Yes, his legs fell off at the end of the last two years. Despite that, no, he wasn't a decent player at best. You're wrong.
