It is quite relevant, and you know this.

They don't have to come out and say it was a facemask after the fact. They said it IN THE GAME!!!

The only reason why they'd come out and say anything more is if the call on the field was incorrect.

The refs made the wrong call in the game. I said it is easy to see why they would make that call based on real speed. You have no idea what they think about it having seen what TV viewers saw.

The picture doesn't show the facemask being pulled, so it is poor evidence of what you were trying to show. Pretty simple. Just because they would make the call based on what it looks like doesn't mean it's the right call.

Again, the video I just posted in your quoted response shows the thumb in the mask and the helmet turn. It's obvious. We can disagree on if its really a facemask under the rules or if they should review it. I got nothing against you and love the debate, we are just going to disagree. Under the current rules though, they are going to call that in real time. I agree replay may need to be used. Hope its a good weekend CP

Regardless of what the video shows (the link didn't work for me), the picture didn't show what you were trying to say, this why I asked why show something that doesn't indicate anything. That picture was better evidence for no facemask and a shoulderpad pull.

It looks like the most overrated player in league history ain't so great w/o the best receiver in football... Jordy Nelson

I told this board time and again that Nelson is a flat out stud and I take him over the loose cannon were stuck with!

Anybody think Brian Billick will do an examination on the 'culture' in GB? I want to have my dvr ready! I can't miss that!

You really think Nelson would look good in this pathetic offensive "scheme" we have? I don't recall Nelson doing anything last year against our weak DBs in the playoff game.

And they are right there for the division title without Nelson. Of course any QB's stats will go down without their #1 WR.

But they are 8-4 and right behind Minnesota. To say he's the most overrated player in history makes you look extremely dumb.

Uh, yeah, I DO have an idea what they thought about the call. They called a penalty for facemask. The call stood. The league has not issued an apology.
You're trying in vain to argue that it wasn't a facemask.
But absolutely NO EVIDENCE supports your opinion. None.

The video supports my opinion. And most people agree with it. And NO you do not have any idea what they thought of it after seeing what we saw. You only know what they thought of it live. The league != the officials at the game. And, "the call stood?" It's not reviewable. Uh dur dur.

No, the video doesn't. And you don't know what "most people agree with" because you don't know the number of people who have seen the play. Furthermore, there's no way to quantify what "most" is.

The bottom line is that the video CLEARLY shows that the defender contacts the facemask and the facemask turns as a result of the contact.
The refs, who are the authorities, called a facemask penalty. And the league has issue no apology nor has it said the call was incorrect.

So the only legitimate evidence we have supports a facemask penalty. And that's the way I will stand.

It was not a foul as written, he never grasped it and even had he grasped the facemask as long as he let go immediately it is not suppose to be called.

“No player shall grasp and control, twist, turn, push, or pull the facemask of an opponent in any direction,” Rule 12, Section 2, Article 14 states.

The rule comes with an important caveat: “If a player grasps an opponent’s facemask, he must immediately release it. If he does not immediately release it and controls his opponent, it is a foul.”

But by that definition he twists the helmet. That's what makes it a facemask. The call would not have been a facemask if the helmet doesn't twist. But it's clear the helmet twists, and Rodger's chin strap lands below his lip.

The twisting is what made it a facemask.

I'm not sure how anyone can watch that video and not see clearly that the thumb goes into the facemask and pulls the helmet around. It does that quickly, then his hand comes out and grabs Rodgers on the shoulder pad. It doesn't matter if he pulled him down by the shoulder pad afterwards. That was a facemask any day of the week. The NFL is right not to apologize for that call. It was a correct call.

Blaming the Lions' loss on the refs is just plain silly, especially after the Lions surrendered that big lead and gave up a Hail Mary pass. Their coverage on it was atrocious. There was no one in front of the Packer wide receivers in the endzone. Your defense should be able to bat the ball down on a low percentage desperation play like that. You make sure a couple defenders are in front so that when they jump they can bat the ball and disrupt any attempt by a WR to catch the ball. Crappy, crappy defense. I'm laughing at the Lions. I didn't get to watch the game until tonight. It was nice to watch someone else implode for a change.

Exactly. Some people can't seem to read the two words, "grasp AND." Meaning the player has to both grasp (not just hit or otherwise contact) and pull, turn or otherwise control the facemask. Movement of the helmet from an impact is not a facemask. Grasping without controlling is not a facemask. It is the combination of the two that is required.

what I am amazed at is that in real time it looked as though it was a facemask. Anybody watching the game immediately thought it was a facemask. The player himself at the time though he commited a facemask. you could tell by his body language. Only when slow motion was seen did it become questionable. If it was reviewable maybe it would change. But two refs saw it and threw the flag. The whole world watching (not me I was asleep because I gave up on them) saw it and though it was a face mask. Since it is not reviewable I dont see what the issue was. Rogers then made the throw of his life and the Packers won the game.

It is clear you have no understanding of rules.

The live camera angle was at a distance and at an angle that there was no way anyone could tell. It would only be by assumption. The ref behind could not tell either even though he threw the flag. It's the other refs responsibility who did have a closer and better angle that should have over-ruled that call.

According to your opinion. However, the officials and their supervisors, who are the authorities of the rules, agree with me. Or, more appropriately, I agree with them.
So who responsible for interpreting the rules agrees with you? :)
