TNF: Rams at 49ers

But Purdy is a franchise QB…but franchise QB is so hard to find. Soooo important…but. But. I don’t understand why he looks like a pile of donkey doo if he’s franchise material.

Could it possibly be that he only looks good when all of the best players around him are playing better than the best players on the opponents’ defense? Could the franchise QB discussion just be crap the media pushes to drive ratings? QB vs QB ratings bonanza. Cause Nick Bosa vs some OT doesn’t generate ratings? What a crock. So many QB’s in this league are the 9th to 12th best player on their base offense but get paid like they are the 1st. SF got Jimmy G to a SB. They should be smart and avoid paying Purdy.

I don't think franchise QB means that you are the best player on your team or even the best QB in the league. What it means is out of all the QBs that are in the league, you are one the team believes it can win with if the team is solid. If we're going by QBs who are the best players on their team, very, very few would be considered franchise QBs. Probably in the league, those who typically are in the top half of quarterback metrics each year are considered franchise QBs because it's hard to find a good one, much less a great one.

I do agree that QBs get too much attention and too much money, but some of that is because of scarcity. No team wants to roll the dice and end up with a Daniel Jones or Ryan Leaf, etc., so they pay the good ones and call them franchise QBs.

Yo, this is wild! I saw Kyle’s PC and it was just weird, and fans are dogging Kyle and from the comments they think he’s losing control of the locker room, and should be gone.

My opinion is there is a scarcity of teams that can build high end rosters coupled with really good coaching. I don’t think that guys like Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield, Geno Smith, Kirk Cousins, Dak Prescott, Alex Smith, Brock Purdy, Jimmy G, etc, etc are scarce material.

Elite QB’s are scarce material and move the needle more than any other player, but obviously cannot be the difference in winning and losing (lots of games) if the defensive side of the ball is in the bottom 6-8 teams in the league. See Joe Burrow this season. A top four offense (and that is against basically all the defenses they have played-and consistent production throughout the game, not just at the end)-but a bottom three defense.

Most teams are on a very short leash before coaches and front office get fired and replaced, and “franchise” QB’s get thrown to the wolves. In my opinion, QB’s get ground up in many of these situations before they can develop into competent starter material. I’m not sure Daniel Jones or David Carr ever got a real fair shake. They were on terrible rosters with poor coaching-who knows what they would have been with better talent and coaching early in their careers. I wonder what a Daniel Jones would look like on SF with a fully healthy roster.

There are some QB’s that do not have the mental makeup or physical talent to even be competent NFL starters, but that can be difficult to be definitive about because they typically do not end up on good rosters with good coaches.

The QB position is simply overrated at this point. Don't get me wrong, if you have an outright bad QB its going to limit the team pretty badly and the impact there is greater than any other position. That said, if you have a good line, coaching and skill position players, an average QB is going to look like a star QB. There are a lot of average QB's out there.

Purdy is like pretty much any QB, only effective when he's cheap, allowing weapons around him.
Brw - check the 9ers unallocated CAP, preparing for the future??

Fully agree and that's exactly why you don't pay quarterbacks like Dak, Purdy and Cousins. As in solid bus drivers without the ability to be the game changer and reason why a team can win a game unlike Mahomes, Allen, Burrow and Jackson. You only pay the elite guys. Dak is not elite. Arguably Herbert should be added to the above list as well.

So true. He's a bus driver needing others to make plays to win games. He can't make that x factor throw into tight coverage or make that key run with his wheels.

Ravens will reach the Superbowl from the AFC. Have it marked.

Campbell trying to be out of the NFL on his own accord lol.

Dude plays in 13 games, some with over 90% snaps and then gets butthurt once the starter is healthy?
Not like he got benched for Jaylon Smith.

Very good post . We saw what a real “ franchise QB “ looks like with Burrow . If they could ever match what he brings to the table with a half way decent defense then you would have multiple SB trips

Wow. A very intelligent post. Clear understanding of the system.
