Over 200+ reported dead now and a lot of reports from the ground that that might not be remotely close to what it will be in the coming weeks.
Unfortunately, it’s going to be in the thousands. I have family in Gatlinburgh which was hit less but South and SE of them are pretty much wiped out.

Yeah, I didn't want to get to morbid with the details about what peple have seen down there. But it's pretty disturbing. I'd be surprised if they find all the victims, some might stay missing forever.

Not helping that there seems to be a lot of miscommunication going on between multiple agencies. A lot of the ground work right now is being done by just average community members.

All of their misery with Hurricane Helene, and now, they have to deal with this:

North Carolina is distributing Benadryl and EpiPens as yellow jackets swarm from Helene flooding

Yeah, it's one thing after another. Escalating due to agency bickering back and forth, confusion about who is authorized to help whether it's from helicopter landings or bringing in supplies. Then you have those at the top initially saying they had everything under control and prepared now they are saying they are running out of funds.

I think the most frustrating part of this was just the lack of urgency after the hurricane hit. It was pretty clear, especially if you followed those on the ground in NC and Georgia, that this wasn't a typical hurricane aftermath. We knew of entire towns being swept away a few hours into the hurricane. Feels like things really didn't ramp up for about 3-4 days.

Yep and that's just one incident. A lot of those on the ground trying to get supplies to those in need getting blocked - Musk and Buttigieg had a back and forth on twitter about inability to land due to lack of authorization. Luckily they got that sorted out, but there are plenty of people not on Musk's level to have a direct line to the higher ups.
a massive bureaucracy will always be slow to respond when its not got the maual right in front of them or there is something not in it. And then you have those like that idiot that threatened to arrest someone saving lives while he was sitting on his butt nice and safe and comfortable.

Now another one is about to cross the Gulf with its crosshairs on Tampa.

I recommend that you watch this at 75% playback speed.

Emergency Text Sent Out: "Get to Higher Ground Now ! ! !"

Only one problem for these folks: Their Cell Towers had already been knocked out by then. And the electricity also.

A portable AM radio could save your life.

I have AM/FM handheld radios that work with AA batteries, which are easier to find than 9V batteries, in some cases.

I have an Eton - Scorpion II hand crank/solar screen AM/FM/NWS radio.

I have a handheld ham radio transceiver. I have no license, but would transmit in an Emergency.

I have a Harbor Freight - Viking Compact Power Pack / Car Battery Jumper that I can use to charge a device.

Florida in for another one this week
This new one going to out do Helene. Tampa about to get a Katrina situation, Only good news is it gathered so much power early. Have seen these big ones fizzle out quickly unable to support themselves but they’re still predicting a Cat3 hit on Clearwater Beach. Used to live in a Condo there and loved every minute. Great place and sad to see it all about to get washed away.

20+ tornadoes in east coast of Florida. Big one hit st lucie county.

Unofficially I've seen numbers from 25-35 dead. Video showed a big tornado striking that area.
