People are making assumptions that may be way off based strictly on the 5m signing bonus. This guys cap hit for the first 2 years of the deal are probably @ 2m year 1, 2.5m year 2. He either pans out by then or we can take maybe a 3m cap hit in year 3. Not the end of the world. And at a year 1 cap # of 2m we could EASILY not start him. Assuming LA is gone or he's the new RT is just speculation based on nothing. IMO the guy that should be concerned most about this signing is Torrin Tucker. He looks to me to be fired. That's the only conclusion that should be drawn so far.

IF Kosier was signed for depth purposes, isn't his contract a little high? Or am I freaking out over nothing?

5 years 15mil
5mil SB

That sounds like a chunk of change......too much for a back up G or T.

The way I'd imagine, it, the contract probably has alot of the 15mil backloaded into later yeras of the contract. He's prolly not costing much more than 1mil/year on the salary cap, until later, in which case he'd prolly get cut.

my calcs put it at 3.3ish in the final year -- if understand the 30% rule correctly the base can only go up 30% each year, right?

That means the lowest possible base for year 1 would be 1.15 - ending up at 3.3ish in the final year - still that's low cap charges (under 3 mill) for the first three years. He's make almost 6 million in salary the final 2 years.

30% rule is gone now. It only mattered in the final capped year new CBA wiped it out

Kyle freaking Kosier!! yea baby, what a start to FA for the Boys! and Hannam on the way. who's next?

Give the Cowboy management a chance here....Snyder is a great example of this in that for several years he blows and go's 100 miles an hour to sign big names in the first day of free agency, and what has that really brought them? And just because we have a great deal of cap room, doesn't mean it is fiscally advantages for us to spend all of it. How many times have we seen (year after year) where players have been signed for record (or large amounts) money, and it turns out they were worth the cost in the end. Or think back on those players that are cut one or two years later, to save in cap money. I have to admit it is exciting to see big names sign on with us, but I believe the Cowboys know a little bit more about the players, money involved, physical limitations, contract specific requests than we do! The Cowboys also have to look at the team as a whole, and what would better mold with our other players and offensive or defensive philosophies / schemes. Big name players don't always fit those extraneous needs.
