Stay safe, and please check in when you can so we know you are safe.

It's just raining. Did some last minute preps. I think we will be all right. But, Murphy can be a beeyotch.

Got a report from a buddy that went down to NC to help his dad secure his house. Lost power around 4am. Storm surge about 3' from the garage. No comms since then.

Good luck to all.

Just rain and little bit of wind at this point. Already downgraded to a CAT1.

Although this is only a CAT 1 at this point, the enormous size and fact that it is moving so slowly is what will cause so much flooding.

I have bunch of relatives that live on NC's Outer Banks. Some stayed and some went up to the mountains to visit my parents.
Those beautiful islands have taken a beating the past few years.

Yeah...I suspect flooding will be this storm's most damaging force, and it may be an issue from NC to Canada.

I have a lot of friends in Norfolk, Va Beach, and the Outer Banks. I lived in Kill Devil Hills for three summers during college to surf....some of the good breaks that I used to go to have changed dramatically due to storms. The further south you go, the more evident the damage over the last few years has been. I'm heading there in three weeks for a wedding...

Oddly enough, I have friends in the Outer banks that are still reporting on FB. They still have power....just sitting around drinking beers and baking muffins. Lmao...

Ha...I know right!

The drinking part worries me a bit though. I have some pretty silly friends...that have some extreme tendencies. I lost a friend to drunken whitewater canoeing during Isabel. I've lost two friends to surfing in big storms. I'm hoping the fact that we're all in our 30's now would make us smart enough to avoid crap like this from now on.

lol
I have two brothers that are WAY out there right now. They live in Hatteras village, so no escaping when you are that far out at sea. They've lived there most of their lives though, so they have good plans and are in secure homes on some of the higher parts of the island.

I bet those were some great memories of summers out there. I sure loved it where we lived. We were just ther for a week in June....not much surf on that trip, but perfect weather.
My sister has her medical practice in Nags Head (lives in Manteo)...so very close to your old stompin gorunds.

There must be an interesting story behind "kill Devil Hills".

I love the southern islands. The KDH and Nags Head areas were fun for partying and whatnot, but I love the simplicity of things down that way. Better surf, fewer crowds, nicer people...can't beat that. I have some friends that live in Avon...one of my favorite places to visit, looking forward to the wedding down there. It will be interesting to see the aftermath of this storm.
