TO on first take right now

I actually like TO and even I agree with this.

I know some of it was blown up by the media but he acts like he never did anything wrong.

In this recent clip he states he made mistakes. Says he's not perfect. But he's actually not taking responsibility for any of it in the way he delivers his "I've made mistakes." He doesn't get specific, and he isn't contrite.

I like TO too. I would love for him to take responsibility for his mistakes, rebuild bridges etc. Finish with a happy ending. I really would.

This is all I could find about Owens' feelings on the Romo/Witten thing.
========
Romo’s desire to get rid of T.O. might have had something to do with the former Pro Bowl receiver, who was the most popular man in the Valley Ranch locker room at the time, trying to turn most of the team against the quarterback in 2008. T.O. openly whined about Romo throwing too many balls to best buddy Jason Witten, leading a parade of receivers into Jason Garrett’s office to complain about the issue.

“I just happened to be one of those guys that really voiced my opinion,” T.O. said. “I wasn’t the only one who thought that way. There were games that other guys were open. I wasn’t saying that to get the ball thrown to me a lot more times. I wasn’t saying that to get the ball thrown to me a lot more times. I was all about winning. During the course of games and if you watch the film, there were other guys that were open that didn’t get the ball. That was my thing.

I used to work with a guy that acted like TO.

Mid morning I'd say hello with intentions to chat a couple of minutes, but he would turn it into twenty minutes and attempt to be a stand up (with managers walking by  ) He would become whoever was in the news that week: "Hi, I'm Jerry Sandusky and LOVE little boys!" Too much personal business and off color jokes to clients. Walked out when confronted with a probation period. Ironically as he cleaned out his desk he told me seriously: "don't feel guilty over this...." - I had SEVERAL LUNCHES warning him, and like Wiley E Coyote chose to walk over the cliff. Every company he worked for has given him a raw deal - right.

Like TO, he is broke and out of people that are willing to give him a chance...why do they ignore all the warning signs and continue to get themselves into trouble?

Meh, I don't care about TO anymore. Nothing he says has any merit. You can only have problems with so many employers before the problem is you. A lot of people can't accept that, but it's true for him and everybody else.

I really loved how Romo handled that situation in '08. All three of them were on TV after a win, and when Romo was asked about the situation he said something along the lines of, "I thought it was a great way to take the media's focus off of us not winning. Great going guys, real intelligent." Wish I could find the exact quote, but it really put TO in his place and it was the beginning of Romo's emergence as the team leader.

Do y'all think he will go into the Hall of Fame?

Absolutely, there have only been handful of offensive weapons that were as dominant as he was. From 2000-2007 there wasn't a player that defenses' feared more than TO.

Completely irrelevant to the thread topic, but if it makes you feel better to dwell on that, knock yourself out.

He's definitely a first ballot HOF'er, and it would be pure blasphemy for any idiot that votes against him.

I definitely would love to hear more from ex-teammates about T.O... Unlike some who claim to have never heard or read anything positive about T.O., from teammates and coaches, I have read and heard positives statements from coaches and teammates about T.O...

For all of you that loves and watches football, I say you are not telling the truth because of your dislike.

That and the losing attitude that was allowed to permeate through the complex with Wade at the helm. Remember he was fine against SF that year when he caught multiple TDs, but losing to teams like St. Louis and Arizona really grated on him and brought an insecure player to the boiling point, and he lashed out by flamespraying anyone who had a direct influence on his production or lack of it.

The worst thing about TO is that he played for the Cowboys. Naturally, his presence didn't produce a title. It never did. Guys like him are only good for fantasy football.

He'll be flat broke and trying to stay out of jail from now on. That's what happens to morons whose only attributes are athletic.

Nope. Just Ed Werder's anonymous sources, which is what I give T.O. some points for. Usually, its T.O. that babbles to the media to create the dissention. In Dallas, he tried to keep his feelings or "problems" in house instead of going to the media, but someone else in Dallas felt the need to leak it to the media. I remember hearing stories that it was Brad Johnson.

My only gripe about the Cowboys releasing T.O. was the fact that they thought Roy Williams was a suitable replacement. Fortunately (unfortunately for Roy), he got cracked ribs, and allowed the emergence of Miles Austin. And although at the time nobody really agreed with it, thank goodness we drafted Dez.

Speaking of Roy, not to get too sidetracked, but I remember him criticizing Garrett's offense at the end of the season as well. Roy criticized the play calling and was asked what kind of plays could be called. Roy responded "We could start with a slant. I mean, its a simple route..."

To me, that above quote was a direct jab to Garrett, far worse than what T.O. had done.

Agreed. I've said it for years. He's mentally ill and needs help.

I wouldn't say he isn't charismatic though. He seems to influence half of every team he's ruined.

I think "mentally ill" is a bit much. He is self-centered and a total ******bag IMO but the guy is not deranged or anything.

And T.O. is MORE than qualified for a position in the media. You know how many idiots are getting ridiculous time on air? Marshall Fualk, Deion Sanders, Warren Sapp, Stephen A Smith, Skip Bayless, Rob Parker and the list goes on and on.

Lashed out by flamespraying anyone who had a direct influence on his production or lack of it?

When did he do this? Anonymous sources saying he had a private meeting with Garrett =/ = "lashing out/flamespraying." If Owens wanted to "flamespray," don't you think he would have made it clear?

How hard is it to just come out and rip people? It's easy to say, "Romo isn't throwing me the ball, Jason Garrett's play calling stinks," etc. But Owens never said anything even close to that.

With Owens, everybody tries to "read between the lines." "What does he mean by that? It sounds like he's blaming X."

I'm sorry, but the guy is not that bright. Analyzing what he says is just stupid. Have you ever listened to him speak? Here's my impression of him.

"Again, obviously, my thing is, obviously, obviously, again, again, *misused polysyllabic word*, obviously, again, *double/triple negative*"

People call Owens "outspoken," but everything he's ever been accused of saying was put in his mouth by an interviewer. Think about it.

"Eagles undefeated with Brett Favre at QB." - Michael Irvin said that.

"Do you think Jeff Garcia is gay?" - Playboy asked that

"I wasn't the guy who got tired in the Super Bowl" - Hank Fraley and Freddie Mitchell started the "McNabb got tired/was vomiting the huddle" thing

"Were you satisfied with the number of passes thrown your way?" - Cowboys writer asked that following loss to Commanders in 2008

"Do you think it's time for a quarterback change?" - 49ers writer asked this following 35-7 loss to Vikings after asking a question about how Rattay did in mopup duty. Owens just said, "who knows? That's not my call to say we need a quarterback change, but Rat did a good job when he was in there. Whoever is in there, I'm going to catch the ball. Even if it's Ken Dorsey in there, I'm going to catch the ball." Of course, the headlines the next morning read, "Owens: Time For a Quarterback Change." That was actually what started the Owens-Garcia feud, because the media promptly informed Garcia that Owens was "calling for a QB change," and Garcia is a thin-skinned quarterback with a persecution complex.

Owens has never come up with anything controversial to say on his own. He gets baited into replying to something somebody else said and simply isn't sharp enough to see what they're up to.

The things Owens is bashed for having said were errors in articulation and judgment, they weren't statements made with malicious intent. He was trying to be politically correct. He just isn't very good at it.

He was just a major media target because of how he behaved after scoring touchdowns, and he wasn't articulate enough to handle the kind of questions they were baiting him with.

Um, first of all...there was no "situation." Owens privately discussed the offense with Jason Garrett and Ed Werder got wind of that information from one player who didn't (and never did) like Owens and went to town. And secondly, Romo was joking. How does that "put Owens in his place?" Romo, Owens, and Witten all knew it was BS.

OK.

He's not mentally ill, yet he made $80M during his career, yet broke and is a deadbeat Dad. Had a couple of well-publicized incidents of OD that looks like (to put it nicely) self-harm. Well after single-handedly ruining the Eagles 2005 with his whining, his behavior got him kicked off the Allen AFL team he was positioning himself to return to the NFL. Not to mention numerous quarterbacks and other teammates he routinely threw under the bus.

So your are suggesting TO is mentally/emotionally healthy? Wouldn't that suggest he still has millions of his past earnings, is well-connected enough to work in the front-office of teams he was with, or start a business in the places he's been, easily get on with ESPN?

The fact is that NOBODY has come forward. Not every player would want to come forward, but for somebody to be so bad and was such a locker room cancer, I would assume ones would come forward. He's not some bit player. He's the guy that ESPN and the media can't get enough of.

The opportunity has been there, but NOBODY has taken the time to come forward. It makes me think he probably wasn't nearly as bad as some people were duped into believing.

That is not true Hugh Douglas has on multiple occasions.

This is false as well. Right after multiple games in Dallas, Buffalo and Philly this guy takes the podium and talks about how HE needs the ball more etc.. The guy has made numerous comments that showed his true character.

Hugh Douglas said he wanted to "smack him for the way he was acting" during the 2004 season, when the Eagles were undefeated and everything was going well. The only thing Owens had done to that point was a bunch of controversial touchdown celebrations. In other words, Douglas had preconceived notions of who Owens was and hated him from the very beginning. It's just like Jon Ritchie said - Ritchie himself stated he had preconceived notions of what Owens would be like based off the media, but he's now a Terrell Owens fan because he got to know him a little bit after making up his mind that he was going to talk to him and decide for himself, rather than just believing what he'd been told. Some players, on the other hand, never did that. Douglas was one of them.

No, actually, you literally just made that up. Do you really have to resort to lying? Owens has never talked about "needing the ball more" without first being asked if he'd like to be thrown the ball more, or why he wasn't getting the ball more, etc. If nobody asked Owens about whether or not he was satisfied with the number of passes thrown his way, he would never say anything on the subject. He never did in 1996-1999. In fact, he was known as the "quiet" receiver out of the Rice/Stokes/Owens trio. Rice and Stokes were big on complaining (especially Rice). Owens volunteered to come off the bench and be the 3rd receiver in 1998 to defuse a controversy over who would start. You can read about that in an old SI article if you look for it.

Not to mention Owens was quiet as a church mouse in Buffalo and Cincy. People also fail to mention the reason the Bengals signed Owens was not because of Ocho, but because of Carson Palmer learning from his good friend Fitzpatrick, that T.O. still has it and was a great teammate. After Fitz got in Carson's ear about Owens, thats when he brought it to the coaches attention and literally days later, T.O. was signed.

The Rice, JJ Stokes and Owens thing will never cease to amaze me because the general public really has NO clue what was happening in San Fran. Rice was a complete ***** when Owens started to shine.
