TO on first take right now

I think TO's distractions are legitimate discussions on his possible HoF induction.

Leadership on the field and in the locker room to rally a team is often cited for quarterbacks. If inspiring a team in practice and in the locker room was mentioned about Staubach for instance, then TO's distractions in the locker room and elsewhere are fair game as to why his induction into the HoF should be delayed.

I think the reason for such minimal Dallas talk is due to the fact that unlike San Fran and Philly, he never PUBLICALLY caused any "friction" so to speak. The friction that started in Dallas didn't generate from a 'TO presser' or him speaking to the media. It came from a mole within the Cowboys organization. TO did probably fracture the locker room but it seems like in Dallas, he tried to keep things in house and not bring it to the public. Problem was, someone else did anonymously.

In Philly and San Fran, he made his feelings (or truth) public, which caused the dissention.

You can't go anywhere hardly and people have not heard of Jerry Rice, Randy, or TO

Especially Randy Moss.....he's the only WR/Player in the NFL that has a saying like Jordan, when you get embarrased.

Jordan= You got J'd

Moss= You got Mossed

If Moss wasn't a headcase in his career, he would go down as the best Ever....imo, he is.

when you get J'd that is a jumper to the face, if it was a reference to Jordan it would apply to any basketball move that made a defender look silly.

TO is definitely a HOFer, but I wouldn't put him first ballot simply because IMO, his personality issues detracted from his teams being able to win championships. There was no reason why Philly couldn't have returned to the Superbowl the year after they appeared, but his inability to work with and respect his teammates and coaches got him removed from the team in the offseason.

Even though his pointing fingers alot today, I'm glad he at least admitted there was some truth to Skip's opinion that has some emotional problems. Considering how difficult life has been for him since he hasn't had football in the past year(money issues/depression), knowing his mental issues may help him avoid going the way of Junior Seau.

I've always been a T.O. supporter because the man is obviously suffering from some sort of personality disorder. He's painfully insecure you can see it all over his face, self destruct in environments where they feel threatneded.

Let's look at his track record - calling out Mucc after he took it easy on his buddy Dick Jauron and let them come back, yelling at Knapp in San Fran, calling his QB a homosexual, the driveway drama, the McNabb situation, 'Romo and Witten's secret plays', etc etc.

It was almost like he got off on the negative attention, and to be honest played better under it. Whether you like to admit it or not, but since 88 got carted off that ****ty field of Veterans stadium Dallas hasn't had a receiver as productive as TO.

And as far as the HOF goes, he's never been locked up, he's the 2nd best receiver of all time, he's made iconic plays (remember the Braces game against Green Bay), and if it weren't for his out of shape QB in Philly he'd probably have a Super Bowl to his resume. A super bowl he played through with 6 screws holding his foot together.

You guys might not like T.O. the person but I loved watching that guy play football.

If he's not first ballot that'd be a crime, there are scrub receivers in there with half his stats.

Fun tidbits from T.O' book I just breezed through last night after seeing him on first take.

Hugh Douglas was talking about Owens and T.O heard him and said 'why dont you say it to my face.' Douglas (about 30-40 lbs heavier than Owens) walked up through a right hook, Owens ducked and banged his core a few times before finishing him over the top.

That was one of the final straws, he also had one of the worst agents in the game having him on one of the worst PR campaigns I've ever seen.

He's never lifted a weight since he got to the league, Jerry Rice put him on resistance bands and had him 'running the hill' every year to stay on top.

His biggest beef with McNabb was when Owens was due a contract and his QB wouldn't go to bat fro him, but when Bryant Westbrooks deal ran out - McNabb was all for signing him. Was a slap in his face. Would be the same thing if Tony didn't stand up for Dez to get a new deal when it's time.

Not making any excuses for the guy, he's made his bed and he's had to sleep in it - but I'm a football fan, if I wanted to watch reality TV I'd watch something else, so all that off the field Stephen A Skip Bayless talk has nothing to do with what happens on the field.

Its interesting, Freddie Mitchell and another bum player were the ones that said McNabb was out of shape, not T.O. But when Owens was interviewed and he said "I wasn't the one out of shape" the media took it as T.O. revealing to the world that McNabb was out of shape when in reality, he was stating what Freddie Mitchell already said. So realistically, he wasnt even throwing McNabb under the bus because he didn't state McNabb was out of shape, it was Freddie Mitchell that did.

"Tell him to throw a ****ing spiral. A ****ING* SPIRAL."

Jerry Rice wasn't the saint everyone thinks he was. He cried his way out of San Fran after his injury when Owens was clearly the #1. But to the national media, Jerry Rice is a saint. Although I can't stand my brother and his 49ers fandom, I'm glad to have had the luxuary of being able to know a lot of truths behind the perceptions created about Rice.

Yeah dude that was an awesome story, Owens hopped out the whirl pool put on a towel and slippers and called out anyone that had something to say about him. And like you said, strared McNabb straight in the face. Because we all know McNabb was leaking stories to the media and never in Owens' corner with the front office.

Not gonna make excuses for the guy, everywhere he went he caused problems, even here in Dallas with the 'secret plays' nonsense - but when it came down to 3 hours on Sunday there was only a handful of guys that were better than him.

No no... I demand you keep making excuses and sharing these great stories! TO took a lot of heat simply due to the fact that he did things his way. The NFL is not a cookie cutter environment. People hated on TO for many reasons that just don't seem as important when other players follow the same pattern. I thought that segment allowed him to have an honest say and, while not perfect by any means, he definitely wasn't the villain many often tried to make him out to be. Who really is perfect? People love to throw stones from glass houses. It's America's greatest pasttime.

The support for TO, in any fashion, never ceases to amaze me. I loved everything about the way the guy played WR. He was a first class poisonous *** on ever team he ever played on, and brought that dysfunction with him.

Dallas did everything a team could do to incorporate that guy into the fold, and he blew it up all on his own.

there is also the "effort" equation with Moss.....Rice had more determination and will in his little finger than Moss had in his entire body...and that is what separates the best from the couldve been the best...

TO was a beast, he delivered ridiculously for us. Any of the offensive game highlights you see from '06-'08, 60%+ involve TO...and it was impressive!

During my 20+ year professional career, I've encountered several similar situations of a genius employee who's fragile mental state negated their exceptional contributions. It/was a shame!
