With the young receivers struggling in the first two preseason games, Terrell Owens stood in front of a position meeting on Monday and volunteered his tutorial services.
It's just part of his role as the elder statesman of the receiver corps.
"I don't think I made that transition just yet," Owens said. "But I did hear that Danny (Amendola) called me the God Father of the group. I don't know how to take that."
"I told those guys if you guys need any info and if you want to talk to me I am always available," Owens continued. "In their eyes I might be a superstar or I might be too good. I am always available. I have always been like that. If they have any questions they can ask me or (Patrick) Crayton. We want to help them on the football field."
Owens became the God Father of the group when Terry Glenn was released. However, its not a new role for him, considering he took Sam Hurd under his wings three years ago.
Owens said the difference now is that his crop of young receivers is a little more shy.
"These guys are a little more reserved," Owens said. "Coming from college it takes some guys a little longer to make transition and some times being in the locker room with guys they have seen on TV in high school and college is a little over whelming."
Owens said he decided to step up after watching repeated mistakes on film, making him wonder if the guys were hesitant to ask for help.
"I think there were simple mistakes that were being made in the course of the game that could have been eliminated in practice," Owens said. "So it doesn't bode well for them when they are putting themselves on film making mistakes. It puts them in a bad position."
mmmmm, I think hes glad to be a Cowboy, wants a ring, & is finally happy.
