Today in Dallas Cowboys History - Dez Caught It!

No, you are just parroting the interpretation the league used to justify the call.

And you are ignoring their own admission that it was interpreted incorrectly in Dez's case.
  • The Admission: In February 2018, the NFL Competition Committee stated that plays like Bryant's should be ruled complete, acknowledging the rule was unclear.
Should be ruled complete in the future, not that they ruled incorrectly back in 2014. I remember battling a whole thread of people who emotionally rushed to that judgement when the rule was changed until they were shown wrong.

Pretty clear they were admitting it was written in such a way as it could be & had been interpreted differently than the intent. I'm pretty sure Blandino declared on live TV after this admission by the league that it was not applied correctly in Dez's case. Not future.

Bottom line is they made a mockery of common sense for like 8 years because of their inability to write a coherent rule & apply it consistently.

You see? Not only do you not know the rule but you don't know the history of the rule change either. None of what you claim happened. This is what I deal with when people bring this play up and then they're incredulous when they hear what the actual rules are but don't understand.

Of course he went to the ground. Everyone can see that.

But he caught the ball before he hit the ground.
A law of the universe "an object in motion will continue in motion til acted upon by an external force". The ball doesn't just stop traveling on it's path and end up 5 yards away resting in Dez's hand's without Dez being the external force.

The legalist's: Nah, no catch.

Are you just going to repeat what you stated before as if you didn't see what I told you your admission meant? Too late bro. You admitted it.

If you go to the ground, there are rules that cover that. You can't complete a catch until you satisfy the going to the ground rules, not the upright runner rules. Did Dez satisfy the requirements of the going to the ground rule like you stated applied?

who could know the rule? the league CLEARLY admitted the rule was poorly written and unclear. I really don't know what more you want than the very people who wrote the rule saying "our bad".

None of what happened?

You mean this "the NFL Competition Committee later admitted that Dez Bryant's infamous 2014 playoff catch should have been ruled complete"

Hey, If I ever know I'm guilty of something but need someone to argue interpretation til the court gives in just to get them to go away, I know who I'm calling.

Zero to do with correctly applying the rule as it existed back in 2014. To say it wasn't is a lie.

Did you miss the headline to your link?

"Committee says Bryant '14 playoff play should be a catch in the future"

Way to prove my point. Jeez.

What are you talking about? None of that is in the article I am quoting.

I repeat "the NFL Competition Committee later admitted that Dez Bryant's infamous 2014 playoff catch should have been ruled complete"

Which means under the rules at the time.

You don't read your own links. Embarrassing.

First the thread starter admitted Dez went to the ground and now this. Who here still supports this nonsense?

I have provided direct quotes. Not sure why it bothers you so much to admit the NFL was wrong. You believed their cover story, why can't you believe their admission?

Good night.

Something is off with some of you catch theorists, for real.

January 11, 2015. Dez caught it! Lots of debate about if the Cowboys would have won and we will never know. But one thing we do know. Dez caught it. Hard to believe it's been 11 years already.

There were still over 4 mins left in the game, so the odds of our defense stopping Rogers was slim and none.

Yes Dez caught it, but we most likely still lose the game.

Still unbelievable, especially after 11 years.

Dez was more interested in making a highlight circus catch than securing the ball in his hands.

Man, it's not personal. You coulda said good night.

If you wanna continue believing your version, that's fine. But at least acknowledge that I provided direct quotes that support my position of an incorrect ruling.
