The medical check at the NFL Scouting Combine provides teams their first opportunity to acquire information about players they might be interested in drafting. That will not be the case with Georgia's Todd Gurley, who has refused to allow doctors to examine him in Indianapolis, according to Mike Silver of NFL.com.

Gurley entered 2014 as the top draft prospect at running back. However, he tore his ACL after returning from a two-game suspension for his involvement in a sports memorabilia scandal. The injury, suffered in November, was expected to keep Gurley out of workouts until sometime after the draft. Still, it's strange for a player to prevent teams from inspecting him.

I think that would seal the deal for me of not taking him at 27 if he was there...seems like a big red flag.

I dont get this situation with Gurley.he already had surgery and well into his rehab, this is not a Schrodinger's cat situation where the results will change just by doctors examining him now.

He doesn't want his knee poked and prodded while he's still healing. From everything I've read the NFL teams understand this. I doubt this effects his draft stock at all.

people that are writing him off because of this are nuts...

He is still healing, he doesn't want it getting wrenched around. A tight end this year (name escapes me) at combine that had ankle issues got it reinjured when it was examined

All of you talking about being proded being a big issue. It was him and his agent talking about they were looking forward to being checked up at the combine. This just says to me he isnt as advanced far enough along to feel comfortable to go through the process. I was going on what they were talking about. Its not out of the question he starts on the PUP. Never has been. And if he does, then you cant take him at 27. Especially with the RB situation

He will likely let them do the medical eval at his Pro Day or sometime before the draft. There is really no point having them do it now and again later.

His Doctor cannot release his medical information without his permission.

I'm not for, or against picking said player in the 1st, but those who are arguing about not picking this talent because he might not be available for the 1st part of this next season vs the value of the entirety of his career is plain goofy to me.

Now if he has some degenerative condition that he's hiding, or there is something serious that he's hiding from teams- then that's something different.

If the doctors have already injured a player this year during their checks who would want them checking you coming off an ACL surgery?

If this scares you off and "seals the deal" then you just aren't thinking.

iwould magine that the dr would release that information at some point in time in acordance with gurleys agent, to satisfy nfl teams, i am sure it happens on a regular asis

Was that before or after one of the combine Drs reinjured a player during his exam? Why risk it? They have several more opportunities to exam the medicals. Let it heal and stay away from the heavy handed Dr that examined Kroft and as mentioned in this thread teams are fine with him skipping it at this time. If he refuses to allow anyone to examine him throughout the entire process leading up to the draft, then I might question it. Until then I think there's nothing to see here.

Now I'm reading from reporters on twitter (don't know how to link twitter) that Gurley will return next month to be evaluated by teams. Alsi reported that Dr. James Andrews recommended it wasn't a good idea to have teams twisting and prodding his knee 3 months post op and Gurley and his agent used that to determine not to do the evals. So again, not much to this in my eyes.

Yes, my point is that the player (patient) must give consent to release the medical info due to HIPPA laws.

More has come out about this story that his doctor requested that teams not do the eval on him because they pull and twist on the knee when they are doing the eval.
